Plank talking about Hogan's proposal to allow local authorities set the rate of RPT in their own areas. He thinks that this will lead to urban areas paying at lower rates than rural areas. Surely the opposite would be the case.

Rural areas have very few services so they would have smaller bills while urban areas by comparison have a huge range of services so the costs are higher. For instance, if Dubs had to pay for the new Luas extension it would cost them €720 a head. There's nothing in any other county that would cost that much.

Philip Boucher Hayes spent ten minutes on Drivetime this afternoon parsing an alternative translation of Merkel's statement on bank debt today. He concluded eventually that more than likely she didn't mean to say what she was reported as saying by Reuters.
The funny thing is that the international media is still running with the Reuters version:

"There will not be any retroactive direct recapitalisation," Dr Merkel said. "If recapitalisation is possible, it will only be possible for the future, so I think that when the banking supervisor is in place we won't have any more problems with the Spanish banks, at least I hope not."

I wonder where Philip got his version from?
I assume it was from a professional and fully accredited German/English translator?
