David Murphy must be the worst economics correspondent in the world. His contributions to news bulletins on RTE are unintelligible.

Morale is low in RTE and some of Mulhall’s admirers may see this current redundancy package as the perfect time to move on from the broadcaster. It is not yet clear who will leave, but up to 200 people will be gone from RTÉ by the Autumn under the organisation’s own cost cutting targets.Cant claim to know much about Bakhurst. Im open to correction but he couldn't have got to the level in the beeb he did without some decent how news is collected and presented in 2012. Cant see editorial changing much for all the usual reasons. One thing though, when was the last the last time someone was recruited for any top level public job without it being hailed as 'a coup' for the country? The new MD will also have to oversee RTÉ’s new codes for broadcasters dealing with new media, such as twitter but also more traditional news gathering methods such as doorstepping. This practice of turning up at a subject’s home or workplace to pose questions is a well used journalistic tool but RTÉ staff will now have to give written notice of their intentions to come calling.
Great excitement in RTE as hacks clamour to kiss the new arse.
