Default Bertie's birthday: did they smuggle him in the back door?

Some suitably obsequious coverage of the great event on RTE 9 News. 'A solitary protester' outside Croke Park gets a couple of seconds which is followed by a grand entrance by Miriam Ahern. She manages to imply that she wouldn't be there if it wasn't for the daughters before completely ******** up her moment on the red carpet by calling her current beau "Bertie'.
Charlie McCreevey, Charlie Chawke, various Ahern brothers and others make an appearance.

Not Croke Park's finest moment it has to be said. I wouldn't mind scanning the guest list on that party but hopefully the newspapers will have a decent run down tomorrow.

Anyone know who is playing piano in that temporary political brothel tonight? Will some fat drunk stagger around singing the Lakes of Pontchartrain?

I hope they fumigate the place after him...
"It is we the workers who built these palaces and cities here in Spain and in America and everywhere. We, the workers, can build others to take their place. And better ones! We are not in the least afraid of ruins. We are going to inherit the earth; there is not the slightest doubt about that. The bourgeoisie might blast and ruin its own world before it leaves the stage of history. We carry a new world here, in our hearts."

There's bound to be a fight later on- too many digout baskets going around and a misunderstanding is bound to occur.

I hope the GAA got their money in advance for the facility. I wouldn't like to be owed money by the sort of scruff that would wash up in that dancehall.

They sure did get it in advance
    Expensive party though.
BERTIE Ahern was forced into making an embarrassing apology last night over his huge cash boost to the GAA

The Taoiseach came under fire from his government partners and the opposition for giving Croke Park Croke Park (Irish: Páirc an Chrócaigh) in Dublin, Ireland is the largest sports stadium in Ireland and the principal stadium and headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), Ireland's biggest sporting organisation. the pounds 60million injection.

The GAA would now have to reconsider allowing soccer and rugby at the ground, he told the Dail.

He said: "These facilities should be shared as widely as possible."

Mr Ahern apologised to the Progressive Democrats The Progressive Democrats (Irish An Páirtí Daonlathach, lit.: The Democratic Party), commonly called the PD's, are a free market liberal party in the Republic of Ireland. Founded in 1985, it adopts liberal positions on economic issues.

Tanaiste and PD leader Mary Harney Mary Harney (Irish: Máire Ní Áirne; born 11 March, 1953) is an Irish politician and the leader of the Progressive Democrats.[1] only found out about the GAA plans by accident on Friday - just hours before the news broke.

The Taoiseach said: "I'm always frank and honest" as he conceded there had been a breakdown in communications.

He added: "I admit that and I apologise for that."

The Progressive Democrats said the deal was not done and dusted.

Junior Minister Liz O'Donnell Liz O'Donnell (Irish: Eilís Ní Dhomhnaill; born July 1956) is a former Irish politician. She is the Deputy Leader of the junior coalition government party, the Progressive Democrats[1] said: "This matter has not come before cabinet yet.

"It should be made conditional on the wider use of facilities at Croke Park.

"We hope we can resolve the issue."

But the GAA said the offer of funding had been unconditional.

A statement said: "At no time were these discussions connected with the use of Croke Park for other sports.

The highlight of the night was Mary Coughlan singing a breathless 'Happy birthday Mr. Taoiseach...'

look who were kind enough to send messages

THE unholy trinity of Bill Clinton, Tony Blair and Alex Ferguson were in Croker last night - at least in spirit.

The former US president, British prime minister and current Manchester United manager all sent video tributes to Bertie Ahern which were played at his party in Croker last night.
Berties's friend must be a comedienne

If everyone worked as hard as he did the country would still be doing well,” she added.
