Stonewall years ago which was the start of the gay rights movement happened in a different era to now where the world is very different. Campaigners like Peter Tatchell make people think we are complete gombeens and idiots at times. If the gay community wants to engage people and make a case we need to look to people like Senator Norris who fought for homosexuality to be decriminalised and the amazing work of people like the Gay Mens Health Service who work to improve the lives of gay men but dont crow about it. I even cringe when I use the term "we" as if Im part of some collective, Im part of humanity. For a while I was involved in one gay group and I ran a coffee night for young men who didnt like the whole gay scene. Some spent their time trying to paint themselves as butcher than others (I did this myself when i first came out but learnt its silly). The gay community should engage through politics, activisim and other areas of social and civic life
Those are precisely the issues my friend raises. In particular she hates the way her sexuality is seen as defining every other aspect of her as a person.

Chuck Norris is on thin ice here . Gays have no place in scouting organisation is what he is more or less saying. He has just gone down in my estimation...

    From the holy place

A few thoughts on the contrast between the Eucharistic Congress and the Gay Pride march.
The Congress took place mainly in stadia hired for the occasion, and well away from the city centre. The March took place right through the centre of Dublin, along the classic route from Parnell Square to Kildare Street via O'Connell Street.
For weeks before the Gay Pride march banners promoting it were displayed on lampposts (public property) in the city centre and the roads radiating out from it. There were no equivalent Congress banners on lampposts in the city centre (there were a few in Drumcondra).
What does this say about the respective confidence of the two sets of promoters? Which was being presented as a slightly shameful eccentricity to be tolerated only so long as it is inconspicuous, which was actively promoted as a glorious thing which can only be beneficial and which everyone must accept and cherish?

Scary time in the Ukraine, it would be understandable if the LGBT community became more militant with these draconian measures....

Supporters of the Chic-fil-a chain flocked to the restaurant Wednesday for a “customer appreciation day”. The restaurant announced record one-day sales.

Gay activists are organizing a same sex kiss-in, or other PDA’s with their SO’s to use an American expression at the restaurant today. but there is dissension in the ranks, some believe it is too in your face and will accomplish little. I’d agree with that.

Politicians in Chicago, DC, NYC, and San Fran, have said the chain is not welcome in those cities, but have had to walk back their comments because of 1st amendment issues.

Two points to note. 1: Chic-fil-a puts its money where its mouth is. They close on Sundays for religious reasons and donate multi millions to their preferred causes.

    2: I don’t believe I’ve ever eaten worse chicken.

As protests go its the context of the kiss in that is in question, is it a good idea? Well why not they are not breaking any decency laws, its not going to achieve anything but if it at least gets up the nose of the management of chicken a fil or whatever the kip is called Im all for it. As distinct from pride, this is a protest with a message and not an excuse to party. Even some christians have lent their support for the initiative
