    Lovely, fμcking lovely!

Outside the new Bord Gais offices at 1 Warrington Place. Workers unbox hundreds of new Herman Miller Aeron chairs (list price: $970 – $1250) and wheel them into the lobby.

Only weeks after the announcement by Bord Gais that it plans to raise energy prices by 20 per cent.

The pile of boxes in the first pic are *all* empty Aeron boxes. The second pic is of the lobby, with about €100,000 of chairs waiting to be taken upstairs.

And still the tumbrils aren't rolling.

Can I make a slight confession here?

There has only been one time in my life where you would have caught me talking about the wonders of a chair...AND...that was after my butt ended up in one of a batch of the very same which came from an office where the once pampered workers faced unemployment.

And oh for a glorious year, one aspect of sitting in an office did not trouble me.

It's only agitation was the thought of what the chair had done to its previous occupant.

Sure, a couple of new Mercs for our beloved leaders would only cost each taxpayer a few cent, why bother.

Besides, there are manufacturers of office furniture in Ireland, why import $1,200 chairs from a US company.

Why bother indeed. The government would love us to waste our time and energy on piffling stuff like that while they get on with the important stuff like slashing services and mass privatisations.

You have a point there. Given its appalling human rights record we shouldn't be buying from the US.

The Bundeswehr ain't no "army", their job was to keep the Russians busy until the military arrives.

Cutting turf seems to be a viable alternative.

They made sure we couldn't get at the turf, before they put the prices up.

Takes a helluva lot more than the EU/IMF to stop a Clareman cutting turf!
