Burton is careering to the right. A special dispensation for the rich to voluntarily return unneeded benefits *as if* and a plan to put up PRSI - which really is "a tax on work" and far more regressive than the Household Charge - all in the same week.
Just been watching the pathetic "Irelands Dole cheats" on TV3 and as investigative journalism goes its scraping the barrell looking for information. A couple of blacked out faces with voice overs from someone sounding like Batman with a cold talking about how they are scamming the system. Sensationalist and pathetic as ever, good thing TV3 is commercially funded. Anyways the programme appeared to be blamed O Cuiv for the ******* ups in the welfare system and then went off on a tangent about some bloke living in Oz claiming thousands and then some other random irrelevant facts. Joan the moan was on waffling as per usual...

Joan Burton has promised to maintain core social welfare rates in December's Budget.
Plenty of wriggle room there.
http://www.rte.ie/news/2012/1012/soc...re-budget.htmlMs Burton said this was in line with what the Government had promised last year.
However, she did not clarify what she considered to be core social welfare rates.
Ms Burton spent the morning in Dublin listening to 31 voluntary and community organisations who were outlining their concerns ahead of the Budget.

Figures from Joan Burton in the Dáil today show over twice as many cases of departmental error as there are cases of fraud.
Breakdown 2011 overpayment cases:
Fraud - 20,585
Non-fraud [error] - 42,354
Estate - 371. (where undisclosed means by customers (usually pensioners) come to light after their deaths.)
That''s a total of just 63,310 overpayments out of the 447,100 unemployed in 2011.
Which leaves us with the final figure of 99% of comments about welfare & unemployment are utter *****.....
Notice people signing on the live register are "customers" now too

http://www.independent.ie/national-n...n-3290687.htmlLABOUR Party chairperson Colm Keaveney has warned that the Government needs to recognise that middle- Ireland's "capacity to take further pain is declining".
Mr Keaveney said future Budgets had to make radical decisions such as recognising that the era of "welfare for life" was at an end -- and, at the other end of the scale, targeting high-profile tax exiles who pay no tax in Ireland.

If The Examiner is to be believed, welfare cuts are top of the agenda for Noonan.

What will the Minister for Lifestyle Choices have to say about that? Based on past performance, 'Thank you Mr Noonan, sure they're all fraudsters anyway'.
I doubt Joan will have much to say Baron.
