Interesting to see how two papers present the same story - the cost of hospital meals.
The Sindo goes for hysterical sensationalism with the headline screaming about costs of €40 per meal. The accompanying article helpfully lists menus from Michelin starred restaurants that cost less than that amount.

The Examiner by contrast, opts for a scare story about fears that hospital meals costing just €2 may be nutritionally inadequate.

Same data, two spins.
That's brilliant Baron.
One says the hospital slop costs half the price of a McD's happy meal, the other says the same price as lunch in the illustrious Chapter One.
Thankfully we have Public Servants with time on their hands to serve the greater interests of society with such shrewd media deconstruction.![]()
A quick note on what I've seen here in the U.S. regarding the media.
T.V. political shows are, in the main, breathtakingly partisan and mainstream.
There is very little on offer outside the Rep V Dems fisticuffs.
The papers are as bad as ours.
NYT seems to be regarded as the last bastion of liberal journalism, but again, is thin on anything outside the common narrative.
Certainly there is little suggestion that there is an alternative to the two party system.
There are some fine bloggers, but that's a fairly esoteric thing.
A lot of coverage of Obama getting his healthcare act through, but I've read or heard nothing suggesting that healthcare should be provided equally and at no cost by the state.

http://www.kernelmag.com/comment/opi...te-the-kernel/My investigation into Invest NI began with a tip-off from a source. Invest NI has teams around the world, all tasked with persuading foreign companies to open offices in Northern Ireland. The West Coast US team, said my source, wasn’t closing many deals. So I sent a few questions to Invest NI under the Freedom of Information Act.
A few days later, the phone calls began. A senior Invest NI executive had been contacting members of Northern Ireland’s startup community, asking who I was and how best to shut me up. My friends became worried: they urged me to back off the story, or to at least soften it. “They can make life difficult for you if they want to,” one person said.

The media abhor secrecy. Except when it's their own secrets.

The Sun is still fighting to keep one of its journalist's expenses secret.

Imagine the headlines if a politician or public servant went to court to ensure that details of their expenses were hidden.
The Sun has lost its bid to keep secret the details of a journalists expenses.

Media organisations should have at least one person on their staff who sat the leaving at least 30 years ago so that they can stop this sort of thing.
