If a private firm is providing a service why should we have a problem with paying for it?

Firstly, that assumes that every adviser is an expert in every issue and secondly, even if we paid advisers €1m a year there's still only 168 hours in a week so they could hardly be expected to take on every task.

Last week Ruairi Quinn said the UK Labour Party "had followed the Irish model" on advisers

Appears the coalition are doing the same

Yes. In order to keep the required golden circle turning, many of the poor souls in it have to double-job.

All those unfortunate enough to be paid below the 92k cap have received a 3k pay rise after their first year in the job.

Or more accurately, they were paid an increment as part of their contract.

Leo wants other advisers to be paid less than his.

    What does Leo do again?

Mr Varadkar angered his Labour colleagues at cabinet last month when he suggested increments could be deferred.
Mr Varadkar’s special adviser, Brian Murphy, earns a salary of €105,837 and is not subject to an increment.

NTMA puts new PR contract out for tender. The Agency that controls NAMA & NPRF has spent €114m on Consultants in just three years.

That did not include the money spent by NAMA on public and media relations since Gordon MRM won the current two-year for the NTMA in 2010.

The new contract will be for a period of three years, and may be extended for a further two years at the NTMA's discretion.

Gordon MRM was established in early 2009 by former Progressive Democrat adviser Ray Gordon. His other clients include Irish Life, Permanent TSB, the stock exchange, the Irish Medical Organisation and Topaz.

Between policy & PR Reilly is spending over two million a year on advice. And I only have incomplete figures.

    Money well spent?

If he's acting on the advice, no. If he's not, no.
