What to make of the stats - 59% of those who took up a JobsBridge internship left early but 52% who participated in the scheme got jobs.

It would be interesting to see if the 52% came more from the group that ploughed ahead or the group that refused to mow lawns or collect glasses in a pub for €50 a week.

Moan blows her own trumpet (self praise is no praise...)

Burton said the figure was “one of the best outcomes in Europe for work placement programmes”.
What about those going to government bodies? How could there be a real prospect of a job when there is a recruitment embargo?

people are desperate and it's not funny to twist this fact around to suit a skewed agenda.

Newstalk are reporting that the government are thinking of offering employers a cash incentive to extend the "hiring" period of unpaid interns

Something is very backwards about that
"The land Coillte Teo is now selling for development was given to them by the State in 1988 to ensure that our woodlands were run commercially, not to enable them to sell the family silver to service bank loans".

Entrenching the new neo-liberal serfdom and enriching clients of IBEC lobbyists. The only thing that there is no time-delay on in Ireland is the opportunity for the oligarchy between politics and business in Ireland to do themselves a favour by sticking it to the plebs.

It won't be long now before the first abuse stories start hitting the media where interns are being misused and bullied.

A re-run of the industrial schools style of thinking from the corrupt establishment in Ireland- if you aren't from the 'good Garda family' then you and your kids are fair game for the supervisors.
Think National. Act Local. Oh- and superstition is just the dark matter of human history.

Corporate welfare + massaging the unemployment figures.

Win, win as far as this government is concerned.

The whole scheme was concocted in the first place to massage the unemployment figures for the country. There is questions to be answered over this and the failure of a lot of employers to either hire the graduates or why they are being exploited by unscrupulous employers to all sorts of ends whether it be bullying, not giving them full hours etc. Cash incentives are going to further undermine the scheme by encouraging people to take on more people under slave labour and perpetuate a vicious cycle instead of creating any sort of viable career for someone on the jobs que.

Very interesting post on Labour, Joan Burton and the Chartered Accountants of Leinster.

    Is she a member ?

Protests outside the office of a CA firm, about job losses, and jobbridge replacements, I heard.

Surprising that the trougher Gilmore's wife wasn't hired using this scheme. It would have saved the country some money. But then, it is only for the ordinary people of Ireland - not those great, grand socialists in Labour management.

Yeah it was common knowledge that she was a member as she was an accountant before she became a TD.
