So yes, observation is very important to the quantum universe. All possibilities are merged into a massive superposition of states, until an observation picks a single state and makes it an historical fact. This observation does not need to be either conscious or intelligent however.

Is there any serous proposition that something similar might be going on at the other end of the scale? that all that is beyond our ken is in a "superposition of states" and is only "fixed" when observed by humans or our machines?

Or maybe even this... .................................................. .................................................. ................... Great fleas have little fleas upon their backs to bite 'em, And little fleas have lesser fleas, and so ad infinitum. And the great fleas themselves, in turn, have greater fleas to go on; While these again have greater still, and greater still, and so on.

I wouldn't worry about the fleas, you could feel them.
About 65 billion solar neutrinos of different flavours pass through every
square centimeter of your body, on a plane perpendicular to the sun, every second.

It's that matter, which you can't see or detect, you should worry about.

Are we talking of anti-matter here as recently created by Cern or are we talking about matter that is dark. Like coal.

    More like coal.

Dark matter is stuff that we know is there, because we can detect its gravitational pull, but that doesn't show up when we look for it with telescopes.

According to this article, it's conceivable that dark matter could be the same as anti-matter, but unlikely.

Every elementary particle in the Universe appears to have a partner particle called its antiparticle that shares many of the same characteristics, but many other characteristics are the opposite of those for the particle. For example, the electron has as its antiparticle the antielectron. The electron and the antielectron have exactly the same masses, but they have exactly opposite electrical charges.

You know it's there. Fair play to you ...

We may not know what it is, exactly, but we do know that it exists.
