The Irish Independent has learned the TD received more than 15 months' payments in a lump sum after deciding to accept the untaxed and unvouched allowance, which is worth €41,000 a year.

The Department of Public Expenditure and Reform confirmed last night that Mr Wallace began claiming the payment last month -- but had asked for it to be backdated to March last year.

The amount paid to date is €62,218, it said.

Wallace wants his speaking time. Presumably so he can discuss the extensive "research" he is paying 40K a year for

MICK Wallace sparked uproar in the Technical Group yesterday, when he tried to rejoin the loose alliance of Independent TDs he had left amid controversy over his tax cheating.

Mr Wallace was supported in his efforts to rejoin by his political ally Clare Daly, who recently left the Socialist Party, as well as Roscommon TD Luke 'Ming' Flanagan.
But the Wexford TD does not need permission from the others to rejoin the group, which gives him more Dail speaking rights.

Under Dail rules, the group did not have the power to force him out in the first place, and there is nothing they can do to prevent him from rejoining if he decides to do so.
Another meeting is expected to take place today, but some TDs are already threatening to set up a separate technical group, made up of around seven to 10 deputies, if Mr Wallace returns. They would then try to create their own rules to try to prevent Mr Wallace joining.

Clare Daly committed socialist or just committed to milking the system for all she and her friend can get? If she is not careful she will be the real victim in this. She looks, sounds and acts like a fool, and that's what kills a career, particularly a political one more quickly than anything else. Her friend is not worth it.

This is a minimum requirement for membership of Fianna Fail, so she could always switch.

This is correct - under Dail rules he cannot be excluded

This is a non-runner - under Dail rules there can only be one Technical Group and all independent members and parties with less than 7 members can join - no one can be specifically excluded.

This is the interesting one - clearly the issue of Clare Daly's support for Wallace will continue to be a live issue for the ULA. Clare Daly is demonstrating further political mistakes if this claim is true. There is no need for Clare Daly to declare support for Wallace rejoining the Technical Group - he cannot be excluded. She could have simply kept her mouth shut and let him complete the formalities on his own.

Micko will not seek to join the old team any more.

Without speaking time, I wonder how he will share the results of his 40K "research" with his government colleagues??

TAX cheat Mick Wallace last night pulled back from his attempt to rejoin the Technical Group, as some Independent TDs feared his approach would "bust" their alliance.

Mr Wallace dramatically withdrew his demands after meeting with leading members of the group over the last few days.

It came as deputies slated Mr Wallace for his "arrogance" amid fears his approach would lead to the loose grouping of TDs splitting up entirely.

Newstalk will be interviewing Micko today

I hope they ask what Research he is doing for the taxpayer with his 40K allowance

On today’s show, we’ll be joined by Independent TD and Wexford local Mick Wallace for his first radio interview in months. He’ll be joining us at 1.30 for News and a Natter.

Maybe he's trying to find a way to improve tax compliance. His neck would be hard enough to try it.

Tricky Mickey sees himself as a victim.

    http://www.independent.ie/national-n...l-3243062.html

He uses weasel words about what he told the voters at the GE, claiming he was "openly vocal about the fact I owed the Revenue €1.4m". That may be the case but was he 'openly vocal' about the fact that he had knowingly made a false declaration in relation to VAT?

AIB are at last putting the boot in, this should trigger ACC to the top of the queue, MW's personal bankruptcy looks closer and his days in the Dail, numbered.
