Might have been mentioned here before but "The Young Turks" or TYT is a great US online news and comment channel. Well worth subscribing to.

Eamo, that’s strange because they are all coming from the same PBS website. I can watch RTE and TV3 but I get the same error message as you do from the BBC who deliberately restrict because they sell programming to the US. I was not aware that PBS were restricting, but as I type I remember reading they were launching a slimmed down version in the UK. So maybe they are now restricting any of their series that have been sold to the UK. I’ll putz around and see if I can find alternative addresses.

Meantime, here’s the primary PBS addresses from which I search. Try your luck searching and experimenting

Charlie Rose is a M-F one hour conversation program featuring guests across a wide variety of fields. It’s the best conversation on US TV. Sometimes it’s one or a group of guests for the hour other times it’s two or three separate interviews.

The link below is to the grid of all guests. It’s 40 guests per page and 153 pages = 6100+ guests. Most but not all is online. It’s searchable. Jerry Adams is on the first page. Three separate interviews between 1994-2001.
Interviews are with Actors/Directors, Authors, Architects, Business, Musicians, Politicians, Scientists, Sports, etc. There’s an awful lot of good free listening/viewing here. Check out BBC Newsnight’s Jeremy Paxman, those two did not get along. Paxman is not good when he is being asked the questions.

I don’t know but would suspect that Discovery is blocked because it is widely sold around the world.

Many of the good US cable channels such as HBO and Showtime are blocked online even in the US to preserve advertising revenue.

Car Talk is the most popular weekend program on NPR. On the surface it’s about solving mechanical problems, but at heart it’s a great comedy show about marriage/relationships and much more. Two highly qualified real life brothers with a real life car repair business conduct a sthick in thick New England accents that makes fun of themselves and the people who call in to have their problems solved.

The first time I heard it I said to myself, how did they ever let these guys on the radio? Most people apparently don’t like it first time, but it grows on you. Listen when you want a laugh.
The second time I listened I heard them say how did they ever let us on the radio?

From the PBS Nova science series a 50 minute program on the 2011 Tornado season in the US, the worst in memory. 550 people killed. It just aired this week. Listening to Car talk as I type.

I’m no longer sure which, if any, of these will still play in Europe, since there is now a slimmed down version of PBS available on cable in Europe.

Frontline on PBS has just aired the first two hours of a four hour look at Wall St. and the financial crisis. Remainder next week. You can watch the first two hours at the first of the three links at bottom, and the last two there also next week. The other two links have related interviews etc. that did not broadcast. Well worth it for those interested. Better than the movie versions.

Here is an excerpt from the Atlantic’s review of last night’s Frontline

    http://www.theatlanticwire.com/enter...r-money/51551/
The documentary has assembled an impressive array of interviews, among them the chairman of UBS, Nancy Pelosi, and the former CEO of Merrill Lynch.

Here the story enters Too Big to Fail territory, which, if you recently watched that HBO film or have read Andrew Ross Sorkin's book, will feel a bit like repetition and rehashing. But that's probably OK. Frontline isn't always the first on the scene, but when they do eventually get there and set up their fancy cameras, they tend to be the most thorough.

If part one is any indication, it will be a sober and unsensationalistic look at just what the hell is going on with the nation's money, one that will likely make us feel more enriched, or at least aware, for having watched.

Charlie Rose had three short and good interviews on April 25, 1: On China and Bo, with Evan Osnos, 2: On Google Glass and more, (see demo) with Seb Thrun and 3: On Twitter and SquareU with Jack Dorsey

PBS is re-airing the award winning 2007 14 hour 7 episode Ken Burns documentary, The War. The story is told from the bottom up It focuses on how World War II affected the citizens of four US towns. It follows the well established Burns style of mixing it all up between video, photo, celebrity and ordinary commentary.

Fascinating to learn that in 1940 the US Army of 175,000 was smaller than the Romanian army, and was equipped with rifles designed in 1903 and still had tens of thousands of cavalry horses.

Now that PBS is available in Europe these links may or may not work depending on whether they plan to show or sell this series in Europe. If they do work they will expire in about three weeks.

For those unfamiliar, Ken Burns is considered America’s leading documentary maker.

Thx. you're welcome. I'd appreciate if people would notify if links don't work. Now that PBS is available in Europe many links that used to work no longer do.

The Jon Stewart ones above don't.

Here's a very impressive, and worrying, pyschopathological deconstruction of US politics as infotainment.
