    Default Cinema Club

I had the thought that seeing as there's already a book club of sorts, a cinema club might be a good idea for us afficianados of the silver screen. It would involve films that can be found online (thanks youtube), and any suggestions can be posted here. We can then watch and discuss the ins and outs of it, imagery, themes, style etc. Any thoughts? I'm going to get the ball rolling and suggest that we watch 'Come and See' first. It's a Russian war-film but is more psychological/coming of age than war.

That's a nice idea and I'll watch that later on when I'm out of the office ... will try to find something I like and comment on it with a link to YouTube as well.
Think National. Act Local. Oh- and superstition is just the dark matter of human history.

Absolutely amazing film Anti, great choice. Not one for anyone with a soft spot for cows though.

Great idea antiestablishmentarian. I often find myself struggling to think of something to watch. This is much appreciated. I have stumbled upon the odd gem as well though!

If you think you could tolerate an epoch-long, subtitled film, you have a masterpiece right here waiting for you http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...69772553247592

Also, has anyone found an English version of this Marx Reloaded film yet? Its twistin' me melon man!

That's a great film, bizarre and surreal in places but hopeless and brilliant
at the same time. I felt uneasy after it, yes summerdaysands poor cow.

This is a good idea, I was going to start a Sidney Lumet thread during
the week and just watched 12 Angry Men a couple of days ago.

Netflix now has an unlimited “internet only” subscription service of $7.99 a month. The library of movies available, though many thousands, is not as good as the primary service, but it is constantly improving. Check out Netflix.

IMDB……..Internet Movie Data Base. Can’t watch much except trailers there, but great site for search by actor/director etc. Discover a new actor/director etc. that you like, then search for all their work on IMDB. Or search for an old fav. Even better when used in conjunction with Netflix

Here’s a link I posted in the US Civil War Thread.

Good to see some interest, and thanks for the links Count. Going to rewatch it tonight because it's been a while since I saw the film. Anyone else take a look yet?

    He had some classics on his cv all right;

    Dog Day Afternoon
    Serpico
    Network
and the under-rated and gripping masterpiece that was 'Fail-Safe'

Its a very nice idea. I'm surprised there aren't more online film clubs. One I enjoy is http://akirakurosawa.info/ - there is a different film there a month, either a Kurosawa one, or one with a link (even if tenuous) to the great Japanese director.
