FIVE, that’s a pretty accurate summation of the overall situation from racial politics to re-enactors. Since a majority of the big battles occurred within a 200 mile radius of DC it’s more intense in this region than other parts of the country. Here’s a cool graphic you can hover on or click.

The dark green States were those of the CSA. The light green States and territories were those claimed by CSA without formal secession and/or control.

Kentucky, for example, initially declared itself neutral. But

Neutrality was broken when Confederate General Leonidas Polk occupied Columbus, Kentucky, in the summer of 1861. In response, the Kentucky Legislature passed a resolution on September 7 directing the governor to demand the evacuation of only the Confederate forces from Kentucky soil. Magoffin vetoed the proclamation, but the legislature overrode his veto, and Magoffin issued the proclamation. The legislature further decided to back General Ulysses S. Grant, and his Union troops stationed in Paducah, Kentucky, on the grounds that the Confederacy voided the original pledge by entering Kentucky first. The General Assembly soon also ordered the Union flag be raised over the state capitol in Frankfort, declaring its allegiance with the Union.

There were many Irish born involved in the civil war. Probably the most famous was General Phillip H. Sheridan. When I used drive from Dublin to Cavan (more than thirty years ago) there was a tourist signpost just before you entered Virginia pointing to his birthplace. Maybe it was put there for visiting yanks who knows. I didn’t know much about him at the time. Sometime after I moved to the US his name came up in a group conversation where I think I was the only Irish person. He was referred to by the name the confederates applied to him, “the b*st*rd of Shenandoah”. His wiki page notes there is controversy about his birthplace. He claimed he was born in the US, and was known to have Presidential ambitions.

^ a b Eicher, p. 482. Sheridan claimed Albany since he was 17, but alternative possibilities include: Somerset, Ohio, on September 6, 1831; onboard a ship sailing to New York from County Cavan, Ireland; Boston, Massachusetts. Morris, pp. 10-11, points out that Sheridan harbored presidential ambitions from an early age and could have deliberately claimed a U.S. birthplace to retain eligibility for the office. Wittenberg, pp. 142-43, argues strongly for Ireland, citing a stone marker on the parents' former house and county parish records.

    Nothing to be proud of...

Sheridan Sherman was the executioner of "Anaconda"... of course it's all conspiracy and the plan's very existence has been denied by the later victors.

Edit: Apologies, my bad. I have mistaken Sheridan for William Tecumseh Sherman.

Nevertheless, Sheridan's infamous campaign in the Shenandoah Valley clearly made him a war criminal (who was only following orders, of course):

Sheridan reached as far south as August County before deciding to discontinue the pursuit. Sheridan chose this time to follow his orders from Grant and destroy the agricultural potential of the Valley. In a campaign of destruction known locally as the The Burning more than 2,000 barns and mills were burnt. Sheridan’s cavalry fanned out across the floor of the Valley as they moved north through the valley, leaving nothing but desolation in its wake.

What has that to do with my posts ? '
other that you backing up the fact of Self Determination (Secession) being part of the reason behind the American civil war .

Well, it's impossible to claim that you stand for self determination when you are denying it to others. It's like saying I stand for free speech but you can ****.

The issue, as Marx pointed out was slavery and spreading slavery. Nothing else really.

It has been made over and over again.

    Here... one more time.

The attempts of the Confederacy to annex Missouri and Kentucky, for example, against the will of these states, prove the hollowness of the pretext that it is fighting for the rights of the individual states against the encroachments of the Union. On the individual states that it considers to belong to the “South” it confers, to be sure, the right to separate from the Union, but by no means the right to remain in the Union.

Again with this Marx crap .
What has it to do with Secession ( the self determination ) of South Carolina Mississippi Florida Alabama Georgia Louisiana Texas Virginia Arkansas Tennessee North Carolina Oklahoma Arizona , and other states and territories , in whole or in part , from the union of states in northern America ?

Try that one again , on your own this time . Lets see if you actually understand the subject .

    OK, one more time. S.l.o.w.l.y...

You cannot stand for self determination if you are denying it to others. As the T Shirt used to say, it's like fcuking for virginity.

It is quite a simple thing to grasp really but I am happy to keep repeating it as I appreciate your ongoing comprehension difficulties.
