the PAME (communist trade union) told the police they would not obey the order to stay clear from Syntagma square. 25,000 of them arrived on the square in the last hour. Police has backed off.... More protesters arriving.
Thousands of people are out protesting in Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, Volos, Komotini, Herakleion, Florina, Agrinio, Rhodes, Trikala, Pyrgos.
More metal fences going up near the parliament. By this afternoon we'll have them all fenced in. We can then declare the parliament the new jail for those who sold out the country

Admire Greek's guts and bravery re their protests as they are in tune with themselves.

Here the Irish are so passive as it would need a thousand lightening rods to stir them up. The only time that they went violent which was the civil war.

So far, 5 injured, 1 dead. Not clear yet who or why the unfortunate victim died. Lots of mayhem going one with teargas and stun grenades, answered with highly effective molotov cocktails and inescapable arguments

Inside in the parliament, the "Greek" representative on the EU committee against discrimination, racism, etc. declared that all immigrants are "filth" and "subhumans". Take a good look at the Ubermensch

The "Lagarde List" keeps causing trouble for God Venizelos.

Especially Tsipras seems to have developed the knack of asking difficult questions like "why did you sit on it for 2 years?" and "Lagarde says she gave a CD, you have a USB stick. Please explain" and "Who's names disappeared from the original info".
The decision to hand over the data now was blatant political opportunism of the highest degree, and it is back firing with a vengeance.

Live in the hope that Greece would break away from the Euro as in our eyes, EU doesn't signify a true union anymore. Eurozone strongly favours Strong economic countries like Germany at the expense of peripheral countries.

EZ is kicking the can down the road to slow down the break up of Euro. Their idea of Euro-wide supervision was thrown out by 'top secret' legal advice as they wanted it to take place before debts talks could begin.

Once Greeks pulls out then other countries may follow suit as it put lot of pressure on Germany re debts. Germany needed Euro strongly in order to recoup all their debts such as Ireland, Greece etc.

God Venizelos announced yet another PASOK conference in February which will again define the future course of PASOK. that is, if he and PASOK are still around by then
Firstly, I can't see this government holding it together much longer. In fact, they have managed to hold it longer than anybody here ever expected, but the cracks are showing.
Secondly, the latest opinion poll has just been released with PASOK polling a really sad 5.5%, down from 12.5% in July.
The good news in that poll is the fall by 7% of the Chrysi Avgi vote, now standing at 14% (down from 21%). Syriza is the clear front runner and heading for an overall majority. I sure that's creating a good few headaches in Europe...

It's a matter of approach. In Greece we had 1 day of austerity protest, in Spain, they had 3 days of protests.

    SPAIN

    SPAIN

    GREECE

We like to give the police something to do. In Spain, they seem to be happy enough just giving them something to look at...

The battle against tax evasion has recorded another major victory!

A roadblock in Larissa, managed by a number of tax inspectors backed up by 10 police officers, stopped a local bakery van. Much to their surprise, when searching the van, the inspectors found 4 CHEESE PIES (with a total value of 4 €) the presence of which the driver could not justify by receipts or delivery dockets!!!!
The van was confiscated, the driver had his driving license taken of him permanently (leaving him not only unemployed but unemployable as a driver) and the driver was prosecuted for tax evasion. The tax evader was caught in action on April 7th 2012, the fine was imposed on August 28 2012.

I wonder how many civil servants got paid for working on this crime, other than the tax inspectors and 10 policemen of course.
Meanwhile, Venizelos is still playing hide and seek over the change in format of the "Lagarde List", fuelling the suspicion that he is shielding one or more "friends". And probably not for not keeping a receipt for 4 cheese pies...

Golden Dawn is playing serious poker! On the back of the latest opinion poll, which, to the shame of Greece puts GD in 3rd place after SYRIZA and ND, the Fuhrer has now decided that as a protest against the furhter austerity measures, the 18 GD deputies might resign en masse. At first glance, this would seem to be a classic case of shooting one-self in the foot. Not in Greece.
If he does indeed follow through on this threat, the mass resignation will not affect the passing or otherwise of the measures, but will trigger an election in the constituencies represented by these 18 deputies. It is obvious that GD will attempt to use this as a means to bolster their postion in what they consider to be their strong holds.
Meanwhile it has also emerged that the speaker of the house has had the latest hate-speech by a GD deputy, calling all immigrants filth and sub-human, recorded into the records of the session. This was done for one purpose only. Under Greek law, deputies who misbehave in Parliament can have their wages withdrawn and can be suspended for a period of time to be decided by the parliament by simple majority. It looks like Elini Zaroulia , the Greek representative on the EU committee against discrimination and wife of the Fuhrer, could be the first deputy to have this law used against herself. May there be 17 more...
