Think National. Act Local. Oh- and superstition is just the dark matter of human history.

Any one planning to visit James O'Reilly's house this Heritage Week?
Would love a report here.
Anne Harris is all upset that no one is taking Brave reporter' Niamh Horan's allegations that she was chased by a broken glass wielding Tom McFeely in Portugal very seriously.
http://www.independent.ie/opinion/an...k-3203458.html
It's all down to misogyny of course. Frank Fitzgibbon is a man so naturally if he's anything less than 100% in agreement with a woman he must be a misogynist. Twitter is 'mostly male' so again the misogyny is to be expected.
Unfortunately for poor Anne, the various women's organisations didn't fight each other to be at the head of the queue to defend the 'brave reporter' - "What is mystifying is that there was not one word." Looks like The National Women's Council has gone all misogynist.
I haven't read the original article and can't find a link to it.
It sounds like a matter for the Gardaí to deal with, one way or another.
The tussle between the Indo and Sunday Times looks more like professional competitivity than sexism.
Journalists take risks all the time, to get stories. That doesn't justify physical threats to them, as alleged.
More seriously, why did Niamh's colleagues leave her all on her own on her birthday ?

The gardaí haven't enough squad cars to cover Portarlington so Portugal might be a bit of a stretch.
In a bid to blow this thing up into a sexist issue Harris has gone so far as to claim that Twitter is mostly male. To their credit, women's organisations aren't biting.
And that's all it is - an allegation.
Could it be that the brave reporter was too humble to tell them it was her birthday in case they made a fuss and instead just went off to have a sad, lonely little drink on her own?
The story as presented by the Indo is a bit fishy. The only reason that Niamh Horan and a photographer would be there is that they were doing a story on McFeely. Why did she doorstep him in a bar after the photographer had presumably knocked off for the evening? Had they already had any contact with him earlier that day? Was there an attempt to provoke a reaction to big up the story?
Saying that, anyone who attempts to attack a journalist with a broken glass should face charges if the facts can be proved. I don't recall hearing that Niamh Horan made any kind of complaint to the local police force.
Now isn't that interesting?
There would surely have been several witnesses if a thug brandishing a broken glass chased a brave reporter out of a pub.
If, on the other hand, a man who was being harassed by someone sticking a camera in his face, jumped up, knocked over his table and broke a glass, the police might not be too worried.
Tweets from John Burns of the ST. Not much new as the silly season drags to a close.
