Peter Geoghegan's excellent “The Dark Heart of Ireland” article in the Sunday Business Post (now available here and worth a read) has ....

angered local representatives because of its bleak portrayal of heroin usage in the town.
    WTF, as opposed to um..?

Nice calm reasoned objective coverage, as you might expect.

Fair play to Nicola Tallant of the Sunday World. She seems to be about the only journo who is willing and able to go chasing after people like Michael Lowry and Fingleton. "Chasing" literally a few weeks back as she pursued Fingers.
Lowry made a decent attempt to hit her across the face down in Tipp as well some time back so she has to be doing something right.

The Indo has really girded up the old lions this weekend. A 'cabal' no less
Civil service cabal 'in plot to nobble bank probe'
    is the lead.

He is a lot less personable than Henman, and the seemingly religious behaviour after a win seems, well, creepy.

I will be watching tomorrow's final though.

At one time there was a link to a clip of that incident here but I cant track it down now. As I recall it all that happened was that Lowry put up a hand to prevent someone following him into a private building.

It was a bit more than that, Baron. It was designed as a good old fashioned backhander across the face. Lowry under pressure is not a pretty sight. Give me a couple of minutes and I'll dig the clip out.

Lowry at his ease isn't a pretty sight but I think we have enough to criticise him with in what he's done.

Video clip here. He knew it was a woman journalist that was approaching him. Clear that he lashed out as the other person in the video tried to open the door.
Can you imagine a British MP having to stand over a video like that? Not alone would he have had to resign but he'd probably be serving six months for attempted assault.

Thanks for the link PJ but I genuinely can't see it as an attempted assault. It looks to me like he's lunging through the curtain to close the door in an attempt to prevent what he probably assumed was the journalist and cameraman following him into the building.

Poor old Lowry. Always more sinned against than sinning.
Sure you weren't earning 125k pa in a previous life for being slightly economical with reality?
