It has been confirmed that there will be a reduction in hours at the A & E department at Lagan Valley Hospital in Lisburn from the start of next month.

The South Eastern Trust said that from 1 August the department would change from operating 24 hours a day to being open from 09:00 to 20:00 BST daily.

    Thanks for the link.

The cuts are bad, but made even worse I think because they are being made piecemeal in different areas and different services. I'm quite sure no-one at all is monitoring on what is happening right across the board.

I try with the amount of info i send out but the problem is local media blank out, it does not allow to make these comparisons.

politicians will always get their pr lies in the front pages while the community wont get their say

The Mid would be my local hospital, dozens of family members born there, first stop in the case of an accident and my late mother spent a long time in Thompson House after a stroke.

Unfortunately, I have watched it degraded down to little more than a health centre. Coleraine and Antrim Hospitals are full of refugee workers from Magherafelt and neither are capable of taking the patient excess. The Mid was such a pleasant place even though it was basically a renovated work-house, it still beat the hell out of the soulless modern fortresses of paperwork and jobsworths.

It's said that Thompson House is only surviving because of a legacy from a benefactor but I'm not sure if that's true. Very sad that it's days are numbered regardless.

Thompson house will be closed and turned into offices, closed before jan 2013 so building work can start.

I have put thus all over the media and politicians, noone wants to take it on bar the community group. If people actuall knew the truth there would be uproar.

As there is mo real stopping it now I put a proposal to the NHSCT, Compton , health minister and health committee to reopen ward 2 as it was refurbished before they shut it down last year and move patients from Thompson house to there.

It makes clinical sense with X-ray for the patients but also it makes room to take the burden off Antrim. The NHSCT know bed pressures are the cause of most of their problem but they keep removing beds saying the new a&e will be big enough to cope.

This is bull as the new a&e is operationally the same size as rhe old one, the 24 extra beds mean nothing as they shut so many it's not extra beds when counted up

If you can share stuff from the save the mid site would be grateful, people need to know what's happening.

Magherafelt council fully support turning the place into a health centre, I have the proof but they wrote a statement making me out to be a liar and it made front page. I didn't even get a right of response that was relevant to the council statement

    More than happy to.

Disappointed to hear that about the council, you in a position to post specifics?

New Leisure Centre and little brown boxes to carry your eggshells to the brown bin are fine but the hospital has to come first.

SixOne reporting that hospitals have been ordered to treat fewer patients to get budgets into line.

Makes a mockery of Reilly's bluster about having consultants work more hours if they're not allowed to treat patients.

Reilly admits that it's government policy to order hospitals to treat fewer people.

He's obsessed with the budget rather than the patients.

The HSE wants no responsibility for adverse effects arising from cuts they have decided to implement

HOSPITAL CONSULTANTS and the Health Service Executive are at loggerheads over responsibility for anything untoward that might happen to patients as a result of cuts in the Louth-Meath Hospital Group.

The Irish Hospital Consultants Association (IHCA) warned the HSE in a strongly worded letter last week that it would be responsible for any adverse event occurring after agency staff and overtime were cut in local hospitals.

The letter, seen by The Irish Times, is a response to an assertion by the HSE that it bears no responsibility for adverse consequences arising from the cuts.

Last month HSE regional director of operations Stephen Mulvany berated local managers for a lack of leadership in the face of an escalating deficit in the hospitals.

John Crown on Plank now. Speaking of the idiocy of Reilly's policy.
