    Alex Attwood (SDLP) 3036 (9.0%)

West Belfast is a stronghold for North, South, Left, Right, Party Sinn Fein. It is doubtful that the Loss of Party Leader Gerry Adams, will have any impact on Sinn Feins Popularity in this Constituency, and they will retain their five seats.
This Constituency is one to watch in the Local Council elections. éirígí have decided to run, which if they are succesful, could see a change in this Constituency next time round

Very impressive result from PBP candidate Gerry Carroll who polled almost 7000 getting just short of 20%.

That would guarantee him an assembly seat next year.

Looks like he hit both SF and SDLP hard although Maskey still walked it overall. SDLP with a candidate who has huge profile and been standing in WB for 25 years+ got half Carroll's total.

What is PBP's solution in the North then?

If they oppose Tory led Austerity are they demanding more devolution or will the great brotherhood of unity from the English voting Tories see a Socialist Union of Ireland and Britain after the Assembly elections?

My guess is the strategy is just to get elected.

The welfare impasse will only get worse.

Optimistic though, from the POV that he's not really either SF or DUP; nice to see a party with a normal non sectarian agenda get a load of votes. Maybe in 50 years things up there will normalise a lot more.
