How does an insurance company know if you smoke or not? Why would anyone say they are a smoker if it meant they'd be charged more for premiums etc.? Never got that one.

Given that they're going to have to equalise the pensions, health insurance etc as well as car insurance, I would confidently predict that the only winners from this will be pensions fund managers and the insurance companies.

More straight banana legislation from Europe, metaphorically speaking

It seems there's a loophole in the legislation that will allow insurers to continue with sexual discrimination for their existing customers.

Presumably our doughty equality warriors are already firing up the campaign machine to oppose this.

Oh wait, it's men getting hammered. Move along, nothing to see here.

Its all in the wording of the phrase I would imagine. It would be cheaper to stay with one company and not switch to another one there by taking out a new policy. This loophole along side the one allowing religious institutions being allowed to discriminate based on the ethos of their institutions needs to be majorly smashed to pieces. Gender risk assessment is based on stereotypes and is seriously outdated. Imagine telling someone in the workplace they cant do a job based on their gender as it poses a risk, they would have the ****** sued off them very quickly...

Sadly, fluffy, the Catholic church and quite a number of other religious organizations are still saying just that to any women wanting to join the priesthood. Or openly gay people for that matter. Derogations from equal ops laws.... well, there's a few.

I think it needs to be looked at as something to be dealt with. The church wants a special place in society, they dont get that by side lining others. Faunnily enough I know three gay ex preists whom said that the seminary was very gay .

The new insurance regime will come into effect from the beginning of next year according to the Indo. As predicted, the insurance companies are going to hike charges for women but not drop them for men.

Laura Butler and Charlie Weston in the Indo are unhappy that men and women are to be treated equally.

I can't recall either of them objecting to gender quotas for women at general elections.
