It is quite impossible. The deficit is worse this year than last year, and it will, even on the most insanely optimistic projections, carry on getting worse for another five years. Everyone in the "markets" must know this: it is just being long fingered in the vain hopes that something can be stitched up for Spain and Italy, after which they would put Greece, Ireland, Portugal etc. in the shredder.

It's ridiculous at this stage how ignorant the ULA are on basic enough economic and budgetary questions. Surely they can find an economist to sit them down once a week for an hour or so for a bit of coaching?

I don't think it's accidental weakness. It doesn't suit their line to recognise that capitalism is banjaxed. They want people to believe that a bit of redistribution would fix everything.
