The Fermanagh/South Tyrone MLA said: "It is totally unacceptable that this fly-by-night British Minister, who is not elected by anyone in the North, can imprison someone without placing any evidence or proof before the court.

"The revoking of licenses on the basis of secretive evidence not available to the accused or his solicitor is damaging confidence in the justice system."

He said Mr Paterson should now do the right thing and end this pointless legal appeal and allow Martin Corey to return home to his family.unquote]

Who is in charge, Stormont MLA's and their Policing and Justice Minister David Ford? Seems not. Makes a farce out of the GFA.
No other court would convict someone on the basis of secret evidence (perhaps in Burma or North Korea or some other dictatorship) and now we have UK doing it. I had a quick skim through the following link (http://coalitionagainstsecretevidenc...ce-undermines/) and it lays out a compelling argument against secret evidence and its use. One argument states that such evidence disables a defences chances of preparing an adequate defence to answer charges. This being kept in mind could mean that a person is not getting a fair trial as they are allowed under human rights law. Even state appointed barristers that are working for defence can hear things in secret but now allow share it with the defendent, such is the idiocy of the system in place...

The hearing yesterday was deferred until today when it was heard by three judges, they then proceeded to defer things again until the end of September.

    Absolutely disgraceful.

The secret evidence has to be stopped,no way it has any legal standing. In the wake of 9/11 the world became saturated with some sort of mass hysteria. Secret evidence as people would be seen as a threat if the evidence was released or it would compromise national security means that governments now have the perfect excuse to play big brother.

    This disgraceful episode continues.
The NI Secretary has won an appeal against a convicted double murderer's legal bid to get out of prison.

Senior judges upheld a challenge to a ruling that Parole Commissioners breached Martin Corey's human rights in keeping him behind bars.

It means Corey will remain in jail at least until separate proceedings go before the Supreme Court in London.
