Two FF, two FG, two Ind (which means FF), one Lab indistinguishable from FF or FG and a GR opportunist.
Any hope of a left-wing candidate?

The interesting bit here: FG had 4 candidates in 2007, only two this time round. "The Mad Taylor from Quinn" and and Martin Conway, Councillor from Ennistymon were forced to withdraw their names to ensure the seats of the two sitting TDs. So unless, one of the two independents can pull something off, FF will probably get 2 seats, same result as 2007.

James Breen definitely (he's been a TD before, 2002-2007, supporting da Bert), not sure about Jim Connolly.

James Breen (Ind FF) has his posters up already. I spotted several of them while driving on the N85 close to Ennis on Monday morning. He is from Kilnamona after all, so that's his home turf. I swear, such was the beery smile on his face I actually had a second look to see if there was a pint glass in the picture. He should fire his photographer. He's gone and ballsed up his principal item of propaganda IMO. Another thought - what is the legality of (still technically prospective) candidates erecting campaign posters before the formal opening of a general election campaign?
"It is we the workers who built these palaces and cities here in Spain and in America and everywhere. We, the workers, can build others to take their place. And better ones! We are not in the least afraid of ruins. We are going to inherit the earth; there is not the slightest doubt about that. The bourgeoisie might blast and ruin its own world before it leaves the stage of history. We carry a new world here, in our hearts."

Some info here on election posters:-

Clare election candidates are being warned they face on- the- spot fines if they put up posters in advance of the general election.

Regulations enacted in 2009 forbids the erection of election posters before the general election is called or 30 days to polling- whichever comes first.

It gives local authorities across the county to issue fines of 150 euro for littering for each breach of the regulations.

Previously candidates were ordered to take down posters within seven days of an election but there was no time limit prior to polling day.

The public have been told to report any breach of the new rules to their local authority who will then remove the offending posters.

Jim Connolly (Ind, yeah right) wants people to be allowed build on their own land without interference from planners.

A JCB in every field; a digger in every boreen and to hell with those feckers up in Dublin and in the council with their planning rules and regulations.

This is the basic FF rural policy that has kept them in power for a generation.

Is there no chance of a Sinn Fein candidate or maybe a ULA in Shannon? Somebody? Anybody?

Mulcahy did stand at the convention but was added by FG headoffice afterwards

The Socialist Party / ULA will be concentrating in assisting Cian Prendiville Socialist Party / ULA candidate in Limerick.

However, it is very surprising that there is no talk of SF standing in Clare. I am surprised they didn't parachute someone in if they couldn't find a local member to run.

    Election result will be -
    FF - 1 seat
    FG - 2 seats
with Mulcahy (FG) and Breen (indo) fighting it out for the last one. I have a feeling Mulcahy will take it.

Yeah, a 3rd FG candidate could make the difference here, although I'd be very surprised if Breen gets elected again.

Total review of planning as de-facto rulers of Irish Society.

Root and branch review of An Bord Pleanala by the Oireachtas with open agenda to curb power or abolish.

De-list An Taisce as a statutory body in planning.
These are some of Jim Connolly's proposals. That's Jim Connolly the 'Independent' candidate who was turned down for planning permission in West Clare.

Maybe I'll run myself as a 'bad pint' candidate. I got a bad pint in a pub in Clare last week.
    Here's me manifesto:
Government task force to inspect pubs for bad pints.
Compensation for those who have paid their hard cash and received bad pints.
Breweries to deliver barrels of stout to those who have been served bad pints...

What's wrong with more transparency in An Bord Pleanala? And don't get me started on An Taisce, they should be topping the list of Quangos to be nuked.

All for more transparency. They also should be looked at for refusiing me planning permission for an interpretative centre and housing estate in my back field.

Sinn Féin will not be running any General Election candidate in Clare.

The republican party did not even consider any candidate for the constituency, believing the time was not right to offer a candidate from the party to the people of the county for consideration.
