That list there was handy TM ... haven't finished comparing it to the list above yet and have to check other sources as well. I'll resume on this in the morning and will give it at least a couple of hours a day from here. It'd be nice to get a good gander at this area just before the election..

    Good Evening Captain,

I've been on a sabbatical for a while so Happy New year to all.

Here's a chart of departmental Quangos with some expenditure data.

    Cheers,
I made it sometime last year but got lost in a myriad of accounts.
Trawling through government websites looking for information on Quangos would do any sane persons nut in.
    So I walked away(gave up).

    Get out while you can!!!

    Great work, well done!!!

What about our beloved "Enterprise Boards", aren't they Quangos as well?

    Cheers TM,

I only went for the Quangos with regulatory powers
i.e. they were enacted and incorporated under some or other Government Act or come under the auspices (yoke) of a Department/Minister.

Confession and noted on the wiki suggestion there and will look at that later. Unbelievable finding of small bag of 'Dam weed in top-pocket of old shirt which has been through customs four times completely unnoticed by dog or scanner.

Still works. Back later. This evening.

If Luke 'Ming' Flanagan can tell the truth well so can I.

How do Munnkeyman and I've had a look at your wiki. I must admit I'm not the most technical chap you'd meet on a short day so I wonder could I ask what the benefits of working on the wiki rather than a rolling thread here may be?

The benefits of a rolling thread here to which other posters can contribute as they notice news of quango appointments were obvious in the band of people who contributed in fine fashion to the Dynasty Politics thread last year.

I'm a little worried that if we work off on a wiki we might lose contributions available from posters here.

Am I understanding the way wikis work correctly or am I simply not seeing a glaring advantage of wiki over forum thread?

Anyway. I'll pile on today and will continue as I know there's a huge amount of data to handle but I think if I and some others can get to a stage where there might be a critical mass we might break the back of it over a few months and bring in a 'Jaccuse!' list hard enough on the heels of an election to focus people's minds on where FF tend to hibernate.

Open to all suggestions and happy to work off the experience of others in presentation, approach and data gathering. Bear in mind though that I am but a simple seadog and do need the 'Janet and John' approach when it comes to newfangled media

in the meantime I'll work on

Adding new Quangos in Green font and most recent entries for appointments under individual quangos in Red font so that posters don't have to lose their eyesight peering at what will be a long list for latest entries.

An Bord Pleanála: Former Fianna Fail TD (Waterford) 1987-1989, solicitor, in second term as appointee which is due to finish December 2011. 2009 Annual Report does not give salary level for members of the Board but it is a salaried position and the Chairman earns between 220,000 and 240,000 which is tied to Judges' pay so you might take a ballpark guess for Board Members. The Members pay seems to be tied to senior PS rates but cannot confirm for sure at the moment.
