Default Gogarty - Ministerial Resignations a Farce

Five Ministerial resignations, of retirees (Harney, Ahern, Killeen, Dempsey) plus Martin, and five new appointments, within weeks of a General Elections, will leave Government Departments effectively decapitated, so that a few back benchers re-election chances can be boosted.

The cynicism of the move, bad if the country was in good condition, but reckless in a time of crisis, is almost beyond belief.

Paul Gogarty has come out on his website and on RTE 1 this morning saying so in strong terms.

Gormley has met Cowen this morning, according to RTE. The Green Party PP this morning should be interesting.

I'm sure this will not prevent the little b@$t@rd from supporting the Taoiseach in the upcoming motion of no confidence.

Meanwhile, the Green Party can kiss their 'save the planet' bill good-bye:

The Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture yesterday rejected the proposed climate legislation.

Oops TM that'll put a tiny hole in the Eunuch Party's political condom alright.

Might as well extend the five to six and include Hanafin if the IT is to be believed "... who remains in Cabinet and insists she voted against Mr Cowen as party leader rather than as Taoiseach, says getting re-elected in her constituency is now her “only priority”..."

It's hard to see how they can run an election campaign at all. I predict implosion.

If you look at Fahey's meeting, it's plain that any FF appearance will be jumped on as an occasion for public demonstration against the Government.

The way things are panning out there will be neither a national FF GE campaign nor will individual candidates be able to do much in the way of campaigning.

Oh look, isn't this wonderful .... no doubt the other resignees will qualify too - poor dears

FORMER Foreign Affairs Minister Micheal Martin will qualify instantly for "obscene" severance payments of around €95,000 after quitting his job.

Under legislation introduced in 1992, ex-ministers and ex-attorney generals get severance payments for two years to compensate them for the loss of their ministerial salary of €98,745.

It will be impossible to hold a General Election in the current climate!

Have Mary McAleese sign the Enabling Act, 2011 and be done with it. No more silly interruptions to endanger the implementation of the Four-Year plan.

According to Noel Dempsey, today's cabinet reshuffle was planned "weeks ago".

So, that's over half a mill in severance payments out the window, and half a dozen soon-to-be recipients on the way in.

Goes to show you that Fianna Fáil is far from done selling the country down the river.
