The Sunday Times today is reporting that Nicky Kelly, a Labour Councillor who stood for election for Labour (narrowly beaten by Mildred Fox), may seek to stand as an Independent or for the ULA.
He has accused Labour officials on acting anti-democratically when town councillor Bernie O'Halloran retired and was replaced by Una Kelly after an interview but no vote was held. He suggests that the Labour Party officials wanted a process that favoured "dynastic candidates" - Liz McManus's son and a son of Liam Kavanagh, a former TD, were elected.
Kelly withdrew from the selection process and says he is now talking to the local ULA members and to Maureen O'Sullivan Independent TD.
Kelly was pardoned by the President after serving a long sentence for the Sallins Train Robbery.
