Nothing there for me in any candidate. I am an anarchist, and my take on this is that no matter what or who you vote in, the Irish state remains the instrument of the current ruling class, and they will not tolerate losing control over it by any means. They will either mount a coup, or make the tasks of rule for a radical left govt. practically impossible. And there is always the ineluctable tendency for 'socialist' states to become undemocratic and authoritarian. Nothing at all there for me.
"It is we the workers who built these palaces and cities here in Spain and in America and everywhere. We, the workers, can build others to take their place. And better ones! We are not in the least afraid of ruins. We are going to inherit the earth; there is not the slightest doubt about that. The bourgeoisie might blast and ruin its own world before it leaves the stage of history. We carry a new world here, in our hearts."

And what change will you bring about by not casting your vote, pray tell??

Personally I think that people who do not exercise their right to vote should be excluded from political comment.

Why should we voters have to put up with your droning on about everything that is wrong when you squander your opportunity to effect change.

Me, I am voting for the first foreign national on the list as my first preference, the second foreign national as my 2nd preference and so on, and so on.

    A. If voting would change anything they'd abolish it in the morning.

    B. You don't have to put up with it, just go to your user control panel (link in the top right corner) and add me to your ignore list (mind you, that will not work for Sam Lord as he is a mod).
Thus all which you call Sin, Destruction—in brief, Evil—that is my true element.

    A. If everybody who didn't vote in any election all voted in unison they would dictate who achieved power.

    B. I have to put up with your whinging in case you post idiotic suggestions to vulnerable people, such as wasting one's vote because you don't understand how to vote tactically.

You are mistaken in that stalinism as you cited it('socialist') is not socialism or communism. Its pretty much Fascism under a different name. Think about it-did lenin or trotsky advocate systemic murder of everyone for what they said and thought? And what happened to trotsky for not conforming? gunned down in exile-thats what. Stalin was an evil bastard and lenin warned against him in his destroyed will(cult of personality). That's the challenge we face-there is a media driven stigma that socialism means stalinism. I know you did not suggest this, but whilst the issue arises, I feel it is important to clarify that its not. If you want proof to how things CAN work fairly and cleanly in socialist states look to the early days of cuba before guavara was ousted by castro' stalinist mantra, look to the guatemalan govt of 1951-55(too fair to the people so the CIA overthrew it). Presently look to Vietnam, a beautiful country which is arguably the most successful and sustainable socialist economy in the world. Closer to home, the social democracy and democratic socialist parties of Norway, Finland, Denmark and previously Sweden were paradoxically successful through class compromise, something which we too can learn from. Socialism is as alive today as ever. You just have to know which examples to cite-and the right ones at that. None of the states i meantioned, when socialism was and is properly adhered to, suffered economically as a result of internal matters. Not one.

Incidentally the only clever thing one could learn from Stalin is to put all the bankers, politicians who wronged us in govt., and developers into a big lorry, drive them upto donegal and have them digging ditches for ten years a piece.

I know what you mean. There was nobody in my constituency area that I could vote for - that's why I became involved in setting up Fís Nua. By the way, I also work full tiime and have a family, so there's no excuse for anybody to cop out

Apjp, I don't know why that link didn't work for you, maybe the website admin was doing something at the time. Try again. The manifesto is all up there. www.fisnua.com

It says 'We are neither left nor right' but that's because it's a federated party - some members will be far to the left, some just left of centre, some even right of centre. Some members just have single issues on the agenda. Decide for yourself.

It was an ice-pick Apjp. (I get a warm, fuzzy, feeling whenever I use one.) Get the facts right at least.

Seriously, did they teach you this in Workers Party school? It is frightening if that is the case. The sticks have become trots! It is like a hybrid of the black plague and TB.
Do not rejoice in his defeat, you men. For though the world has stood up and stopped the bastard, the (female dog) that bore him is in heat again. Bertolt Brecht

It will have far more impact than not voting at all.
