Thread: Shell to Sea - The Pipe: Nice film about Mayo but a political sell out?

Go on da bog! Swallow that fcuker whole!

With regard to who is paying for this operation. It is normal practice for those who use the gardaí for the cheap muscle they are, to pay for it. However, since all Shell's costs, including pig muscle, will be written off against future profits, we'll be footing the bill (pun absolutely intended).

To make this uniquely Irish, it has long been declared that the Corrib operation will run at a loss, it's very probable, if indeed, not certain, that we, the forelock tuggers, will continue to further burden ourselves with costs and manpower that we cannot afford. Nothing new there I suppose...

    How will they move it?

Can't imagine big enough cranes are easily available in Ireland, could be there for a long while

They won't have to lift the full weight of the truck and its load.

The load weighs 160 tons or so apparently, rumors are on facebook that there's no (mobile anyway) crane big enough in Ireland.

All that would likely be needed is to take part of that weight so that the tractor unit can be repositioned/replaced and a temporary surface put in place to allow it to move on.

Even if they did need to lift the whole thing there's no problem with getting that sort of lift capacity to the site. This crane can lift 400 tonnes.

No and they are probably not doing the construction work on the pipeline either. But that hasn't stopped them assuring everyone that it will all be grand.

It only weighs 72 tons. Might as well send that up the bog road as well.

Can you see how there might be a difference between operating a system and having goods delivered to you by a third party?

You might as well say the baker is unfit to make bread because the postman fell off his bike on the way with the ESB bill.

The 160 tonne truck doesn't seem to have had a problem with the road. It probably wouldn't be a good idea to try to get the crane onto the bridge with the truck but that thought could cross the mind of the driver.

I'm not filled with confidence with Shell given it's track record across the planet and I'm not filled with confidence in any of the third parties it contracts whether construction, security or transport. This particular third party seems to be sinking their expensive drilling machinery in a bog. That's all I'm saying.

And if any incautious person is led to the cum hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy, well that's very unfortunate isn't it?

Hard to see how they could be led there from anything I wrote.
