Default How to alienate potential allies: USI calls for renegotiation of CPA

This is amazing stuff, even from an organisation with a leadership as rotten as the USI. They came out today calling for an immediate renegotiation of the Croke Park Agreement, an agreement which copperfastens pay cuts, and which contains a no-strike clause. They justify this by calling for pay cuts for the upper tiers of the PS (can't disagree with that) but their statement contains the clear implication that the lower paid should be hit too 'cuts must start at the top'. Just what planet do they think they're living on?? Students can't win this fight on their own, links need to made with the college staff in each third level institution as has been done in Maynooth, so that we can fight our battles together. Actions like this play into the hands of the government, as after all what trade union is going to support an organisation which calls for pay cuts for its members?

Just a little pic to remind people of the political affiliations of Gary Redmond, the USI president.

Antiestablishmentarian - how do you think the students and other unions can be best brought together?

In the UK, there were a good number of different TUs supporting the last students' demonstration.

Is the USI in ICTU ? Was there an ISU banner on the ICTU march - I watched the whole march pass at one stage and I didn't see one.

How can students and other Trade Union members be brought together in joint actions?
