Default Retiring TD's Thread: Dermot Ahern, Rory O'Hanlon and others not Contesting General Election in 2011

RTE are reporting that Dermot Ahern will not contest the General Election in 2011.

    Link here

He said he informed Taoiseach Brian Cowen of his intention in October and confirmed that decision with him last weekend.
Mr Ahern said that in the last 18 months he was diagnosed with 'a painful medical condition necessitating heavy medication'.
    "Abandon Ship" jumps to mind.

Will take him at his word that he has a painful medical condition. However he will also have realised that his becoming leader of FF is unlikely and Taoiseach impossible. His ambition was palpable over the years.

Not that there is anything wrong with ambition.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. He is on Pat Kenny now claiming that he is going to do some work in the 3rd World. He has helped turn us into the 3rd World.

What, help despots work out ways of forcing bad legislation through despite the will their people?

Run a one day training course entitled "10 Steps to getting an IMF bailout?"

What a cheek, the Third World does not need what he has to offer.

Jazus O'Hanlon is gone too according to Northern Sound Radio. FF are really going to have a job to do in Louth to salvage anything.

Best news I've heard in months.

Don't bother taking umbrage with that comment please as it won't affect me at all. Personally I hope it turns out to be slightly fatal. And I'm an atheist so am excused from fake sympathy.

Does he keep his personal driver and car? Hopefully he wont have to wait for non existant buses in the snow, that would not be good for his health poor thing.

Ah- it obviously affects his pen hand as well as he seemed incapable of ordering prosecutions in certain areas.

I suppose success for a FF minister of justice can just as easily be measured in the failure to take action rather than actually prosecuting the crimes that every dog in the street knows about.

Especially when its your party and its traditional allies who are behind the widespread criminality.

Not to mention the lies spread by his Department about prosecuting the people who's names were hidden behind aliases 'to prevent prejudicing subsequent prosecutions' from the Ryan Report. Not one prosecution in near enough two years from the report publication.

Wonder how many more will jump ship in the coming weeks? There were rumours that a number of them were going to jump rather than be destroyed in the Election, bad for the ould ego.
