With the procedures in place that guarantee parties money from the state according to their seat size, the status quo is guaranteed for a long time. Unless some millionaire sets up a party with well established names we'll have the regular lot forever.

I could Sinn Féin make inroads in the future. Perhaps becoming a lead government partner or even in government alone. They do have good organisation across the island and they have the benefit of being in opposition during difficult times so their support will rise. However I wouldn't call them a extreme left group or extreme grouping.

Agreed on that point, the only thing really holding them back is the old guard still being in place. As for the far right to emerge, there is a chance that if some fat cat millionaire decides to bank roll some sort of far right party they could attack the status quo and unsettle the current system in place. Parties like the Immigration Control Platform (major lol) fell flat on their face but the economy weakening some party could blame the immigrants thereby entice an electorate that is disenfranchised..
