"If you love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." Samuel Adams
Tis good to see folks, of the privileged variety, get a chance to let off some steam. I wonder how many of the rest of us will get such an opportunity?
I'm not impressed by Pat. Not at all. Pat's developing a backbone and an intellect after the fact and preaching is easy at that point. The truth is that a dog with a mallet in his hole should have seen what was coming, years ago, even before Pat was willing to sell all, to be Kenny's shoe-shine boy.
This treason is not confined to FF and the Greens, may their names be forever cursed. Everyone elected to represent, who has with very few exceptions, failed to do so, is equally to blame. In my opinion, Pat's name is high on that list. I'm mostly appalled that these gimps are still appearing on the TV to vent their puke.
Down with the lot of them. Let them answer for their own failings before we have to watch the hypocrisy of them gutting each other - we're enough of a laughing stock as it is.
Indeed, the 80's would have been a good time to blow as any. Way past due all the same. Cathartic almost. Also Pat Rabbitte has now forced Labour to put their money where their mouth is, finally.

I think that's part of the problem. Pat has no plan that doesn't involve Labour kissing IMF hands. And or, Labour pandering to their capitalist owners.
The banks need burning (metaphorically or physically) and so do lots of other institutions that Pat would be outraged over (financially and slavishly).
The only thing that can bring us forward at this point is a complete system change. Pat is part of the system that has failed. He's waste material and needs to go.
The vehicle that has delivered us to this point has crashed. Time to build another one, rather than sticking a patch on the old - even if it were totally fixed, brand spanking new, it's a failed model.
It seemed genuine anger but you're right, too little too late from Pat. This is the same Pat that's part of the Labour Gael monolith party who joined with the goverment a few weeks back to vote for an increase in TD salaries next year. These people are little more than giant ticks in suits.
I'd be more impressed with a Labour spokesperson fulminating in a TV studio had they and FG been doing this for the last 2 years and not practising the politics of gravity, waiting mute for power to fall into their lap.

Perhaps Labour could refuse to serve and force FF/FG to merge. They could oppose the IMF/ECB takeover, blame FG/FF quite rightly and build a genuine leftist party that stands for equality, solidarty, sustainability and constitutional accountability as well as radical political reform.
The real reasons Labour "have no policies" is that if they came forward and were shouting about tax increases they'd both alienate the mythical middle class voter as well as be victim to a savage campaign of propaganda against them the likes of which would make the "no policies" accusations look like a compliment.
It happened to the Labour party in Australia. The Prime Minister there Kevin Rudd led a fairly radical agenda to tax the mining corporations. Over the period of a few weeks these corporations waged a severe media campaign against Rudd which led to their poll rating plummet. There was a heave overnight and his replacement was someone who reeled back on the mining taxes.
Pat represents the area I live in. I greeted the 2007 merger with FG with dismay as he moved the party closer to the centre. Having never been a member of nor long-term supporter of Labour I suppose I did what I could and voiced my displeasure by not given him a preference.
There is an issue in that radicalism doesn't win votes, it's largely a "middle class" that votes and so the middle of the road waffle is what we get. Aside from all of this I don't think Pat's outburst was pre-planned or a cute hoor attempt at stealing some column inches. FF have systematically lied in a way that only the most nihilistic sociopath could. Regardless of the policies being the same, the democratic deficits and whatever else the FF boys have constantly said "nothing's happening" while the IMF/emf tanks were secretly called in.
Pat showed a bit of character and challenged the lies. As a pure analysis of the situation very few actually showed any character - only Vincent Browne's filleting of Peter Power could rival this performance.
One wouldn't expect a geometer to be a triangle but Rabbitte at least expressed the anger expressed twowards the obfuscation. Anger felt by people from all sides.
I see the rabbit went to the McBrearity school of communication.
I believe your question to be unacceptable. If you think you made a clever one, even worse.
We pay people to be Professionals, particularly on the visual airwaves, He failed in all sectors, the man made a fool of himself, worse still he made the Nation look stupid and backward. He would be better twittering with the boil (boyle). If you want to be seen as the intellectual, you failed.
Quite a ridiculous and disgusting display from Mr Rabitte ... all he really did was blaming FF for Labour's future complicity in the rape of this nation ("You left the next government in a straight jacket", this part is not in the clip). If he really was the champion of the people he pretends to be he would have simply said: "Whatever you and your fellow crooks are about to sign, we don't care, it will be null and void once we are in power. And when this is over, you will hear from us!". Preferably in a 'chilly calm' manner (economedians do like that).
But then, the last fella who tore up the 'Versailles Treaty' and told the 'creditors' to shove it, didn't get away with it either, did he? At least, he tried ...
I dropped out of communism class because of lousy Marx.
