You clearly haven't been to any of these events. I've been to probably hundreds and I can tell you that the people who get the biggest buzz out of them are the people whose efforts are being recognised. Do politicians go along, in part, for the photo op they present ... of course they do. That does not excuse Minihan's actions and the distress that was caused to the local people and users of this service whose big day this was.

There's a point, moss, where cynicism about the motives of people can blind you to what ordinary people think and care about. The attempt to excuse Minihan's actions and to dismiss the concerns of the people who campaigned for and now operate this Mental Health clinic is another example of just how wrong this juvenile "direct action" really is.

Distress ? Are you having a laugh ? Have you any views on the other 20 protestors present ? Have they severely traumatised any users of this mental health facility that doesn't actually exist at present ?
I suggest any locals that have been distressed by the sight of red paint get out a bit more. A few minutes in B&Q, slowly increasing the time spend in the paint dept over several weeks, should work wonders for their phobia.

I believe cynicism to be healthy and I believe the reason for the presence of Harney is obvious.

March 2010 My dad in the corridor of vincents hospital. He was almost 40 hours here. He was terminal with lung cancer and had full blown pnemonia at this stage. The toilet door is beside me to my left. The main corridor which anyone who wanted to could walk in and out is behind me. The woman in the bed at my dad's feet was Muslim. She was being examined in front of my dad which was very difficult for her. She sobbed silently the whole time we were there.

My sister here with my dad. An old school friend of hers was in the bed you see to the right. He was on morphine himself yet he took care of my dad. He was offered a bed before dad which he tried so hard to give to my dad. Such kindness.

The bed behind dad was only empty for an hour. The staff were as always overworked and understaffed. I wont mention the money.

I want people to know that my dad was only one of many who has suffered at the hands of our health service and system. My mother contracted MRSA in intensive care in Vincents in 1994. She spent many days on trollys in casualty. There was mis diagnosis. Mis information. Her mother before her. That is just 3 members of my family. I also stress here for the record that those poor people, from nurses to security that are so completely overworked, and severlely understaffed are the heroes in this story. They keep going, despite the conditions, the pay, the abuse they get. They are the front line, the pawns . I have nothing but empathy with them and support for them. I know one thing, I couldn't do what they do.

What a waste of money pursuing that women -councillor and bringing her to justice.

Gardai have a different set of their priorities of where they organise & arrest as compared to the ones in white collar crime such as David Drumm, Sean Fitzpatrick et al. It was clear as a bell that the gardai acting on the instructions of Mr ' Fiction' Ahern to follow it up as mark of deferrence to Mary Harney.

Did Harney say bring on the charges or as you say 'expect'?? So far up to now, Harney haven't commented it since.

Louise Minihan appeared in Court today summonsed on charges of assault and crminal damage. She plead not guilty and was remanded on bail until next month.

Harney was turning the sod at a new mental health unit at the Cherry Orchard Hospital, near Ballyfermot, on November 1 when Minihan – an invited guest, given her position on the City Council – squirted Harney with red paint from a sports drinking bottle.
Harney – whose neck, chest and hands (including rings on her wedding finger) were covered in the paint – nonetheless continued with the ceremony after Gardaí apprehended the protester involved.
Minihan was arrested at the scene, and appeared in court last month, when she was granted free legal aid after a judge was shown a statement of her means.
She was remanded on continuing bail and will have her case heard in a non-jury hearing on February 25.
Minihan was co-opted to the City Council in 2007 as a Sinn Féin member, but left the party shortly after her election in 2009 to join the socialist republican party Éirígí.

Is there any way to spike the case against Minihan? If you recall Harney managed to spike a case against Haughey by 'inadvertantly' expressing an opinion which meant his lawyers immediately claimed the case against him was prejudiced?

On the basis that whats good for the goose is good for the gander can anyone think of a way of spiking or having this case struck out?

It would be a handy two fingers up to fatso.
