Surely the hospital could be integrated with both of them? Using which ever is the best piece of land for the purpose.

Plank is talking to a James' Consultant who wants James' to get the new hospital.

Consultant claims that 70% of the nations children live in Dublin City.

References an Indo article from 1919 that recommended combining all Dublin hospitals. Good luck getting Ministers to agree to losing a hospital from their constituency.

Less than 25% of the total population but 70% of the children? How is the extraordinary fecundity of the Dubs explained?

    I thought the same

Plank did not challenge the claim, of course

Gilmore this morning said that "the public seem to back St James" as a reason for going with it. After all these so called expert reports, and millions in feasibility studies, (20 m +?)
it could have been selected by a phone poll on the Joe Duffy show

James Hospital is the most logical option in terms of locating the hospital. The area is served extremely well by buses and the luas pulls right up to it so its perfectly located for it. Coombe could be brought under the auspices of St James

The hospital is due to be built by the end of 2017 or start of 2018

Why do the government not borrow from the European Investment Bank to build the hospital and use Lotto profits to repay the bank?

Instead of selling the Lotto to fund the hospital.

Do we really need to enrich a private Lottery provider that badly?

BDP, experienced British architects, have got the job.

There are still worries that this is being crammed in to the St James Site.

The site selection process remains flawed and overshadowed by competition.

    Christ

TAOISEACH LEO VARADKAR can’t say if anyone will be sanctioned or held to account for the massive overspend on the new National Children’s Hospital.

It’s emerged the budget for the new hospital may run to more than €1.433 billion.

This represents a €450 million increase on what the hospital was projected to cost in April 2017.
