The disclosure comes as Labour denied that an intervention from Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore had caused a further delay in the process.

Former Dublin City manager John Fitzgerald has been asked to assess potential locations for their suitability in terms of planning.

A Government source said ministers wanted to avoid a repetition of what he called the debacle of the Mater site being chosen and then rejected after being refused planning permission.

Mr Fitzgerald, a respected official who headed up the Limerick regeneration project, was approached recently.

His review is the latest in a series of attempts to bring the long-running process to a conclusion.

    Another kick to touch?
Today the official word was that the location would be announced in the next three weeks.
Given the Gilmore 'independent examination' it looks like full scale war has broken out again.
BTW, the Fitzgerald guy in charge of the new report is the same lad that features on the Moore St thread
He's been called 'king of the quangos' and, apart from his public-service pension, John Fitzgerald will earn more than €118,000 this year in expenses and fees from state boards.

The retired Dublin City manager is chairman of an astonishing five state boards and a member of two more semi-state agencies.

He's chairman of loss-making An Post.

He's chairman of the National Transport Authority.

He's chairman of the Grangegorman Development Authority.

He's chairman of the two Limerick Regeneration Boards, north and south.

And he's topped it off as vice chairman of the north-south trade organisation Intertrade Ireland and as a member of the board of the Health Service Executive (HSE).

Mr Fitzgerald is the favoured choice when it comes to stuffing state boards.

    Today's IT:
Mr Kenny told the Dáil this afternoon he did not deal in “anonymous” reports and said a decision on the preferred location would be made within the next three weeks.
So that's what Kenny was saying in the Dail on Tuesday afternoon after the morning Cabinet meeting.
First thing Wednesday morning RTE is reporting that there's going to be a new report.
Indicates that whatever is happening in Cabinet it can't be very far away from chaos at the moment.

Wonder if this is an attempt to have 'the one true report' so Reilly & Gilmore's offerings not be played off each other.

It looks like a stand off. Labour can't afford to be seen to be backing down to FG on Health any more.

The publicity given to Gilmore's actions (pursuing his own investigation) has focused public attention again on this sorry corrupt saga. Reilly will be walking on egg-shells, a gait he is not accustomed to.

The fact that one green-field site was dismissed because "there was no one pushing it", according to one minster, really says it all. This is not about children's welfare, or parents - it is about money, ******* money.

The vested interests, strokers and lobbyists will win, society will lose - same as it ever was.

Would this be the same John Fitzgerald who was City Manager when the Carlton site fiasco blossomed behind closed doors?

Joan told Newstalk she is not aware of any involvement of John Fitzgerald in the Hospital planning

    Fitzgerald says
he's not involved "at the moment", but is not ruling out advising the Government on the matter.

    M Martin raising Fitzgerald now.

Accusing Enda of misleading the Dail yesterday (he admits this may be down to Reilly telling him false information as he did with Quinn)

Enda saying neither the government or any Minister has initiated another independent report. (Martin asked if any individual had been asked)

Says Reilly, and his department have obviously assessed the Dolphin report.

Martin asks Enda why he has an inability to tell the truth to the house.

Enda still refusing to answer the Fitzgerald question and is hiding behind semantics. Eventually sort of concedes that Fitzgerald may have been asked for advice in an informal way

Frances Fitzgerald on Newstalk has just said that the decision on the location will be announced in the next two weeks and insists that no new review has been commissioned.
