No. If you listen to the PK interview linked above you'll hear it. I nearly put the car in the ditch this morning when I heard him.
The broadsheet link is remarkable. It demonstrates pretty conclusively that Denis O'Brien's right hand man put pressure on Gavin O'Reilly to remove Sam Smyth from reporting on the Moriarty Tribunal.

A giant pissing contest between two plutocrats Ireland would be a lot better off without. Is there any way to ensure that every one of them (O'Brien, O'Reilly, Smyth, and McDowell) loses?

Pretty much tells you all you need to know about this guy.
lol, you should try it sometime.

Anyhoo, the broadsheet's smoking gun puts a different light on Denis O'Brien wresting control of INM, from the O'Reilly clan.

Incidentally, the Independent was always for sale (remember Bertie?). The coin has merely slipped from one pocket to another.

Pat Kenny put it to McDowell that the Indo editorial policy changed radically to support FF during the election campaign in April 2007 just after Ahern and Cowen had a private meeting with O'Reilly.
McDowell professed to know nothing of it. He was 'too busy fighting an election'

Another gem in today's PK interview with McDowell is Pat claiming that Vincent Browne doesn't use the internet and that he has a huge pile of old newspapers which he goes through regularly.
Sounds like a an urban myth but if Pat Kenny says so it must be true.
    Right?

Anybody remember Pat Kenny interviewing Denis O'Brien on the 25th March last year?
O'Brien was given free rein to criticise Moriarty and Jerry Healy in a very personalised way as I recall. There was a moment at the end when the mike was left on accidentaly and it sounded like Pat was more or less excusing himself to Denis for asking a couple of difficult questions. DOB said something like 'F*uck yeah' in agreement.
During the interview O'Brien criticised Tribunal lawyer Jerry Healy and suggested that he had in fact written the final report. He also said that Moriarty was suffering from Stockholm Syndrome
However, RTE removed the podcast very quickly from their website at some stage that afternoon.
    Very unusual event.
I'm sure somebody somewhere has a tape of the show

O'Brien expressing his displeasure to Lucinda now

Billionaire businessman Denis O’Brien wrote a strongly-worded critical and cynical letter to Lucinda Creighton complaining about the European affairs minister’s disapproval of his appearance at the global economic forum.

Mr O’Brien attacked tribunals, suggested Ms Creighton was "uncomfortable" with him creating thousands of jobs, and reminded her of the "constitutional right to one’s good name and reputation".

He said he also noted Ms Creighton’s own comments that it was "important not to turn your back on my contribution".
Mr O’Brien, in his letter, says he rejects Moriarty’s findings. He says he did not make any payment to Mr Lowry and that Esat Digifone won the licence because it submitted the best bid.

He tells Ms Creighton: "Regrettable and wrongly, tribunals do not have to burden themselves with facts at all. It is those facts about the actual sworn evidence given to the tribunal which are, as you put it, ‘brushed under the carpet’."

I don't see any problem with discussing DO'B's activities and his constitutional right to his good name and reputation.

He forsook his good name when he contributed to Lowry.

McDowell holds no punches in dissing Dinny

Mr McDowell rounded on Mr O’Brien’s version of events, stating: "This delusional and absurd viewpoint would be simply abject, laughable, and pathetic if it were not also part of a culture of impunity which characterises the behaviour of many of those against whom major findings of wrongdoing have been made by tribunals and statutory inquiries in Ireland over the last 20 years."

"If there had been any truth or substance in his view of the Moriarty Tribunal’s procedures and findings, one would have expected Mr O’Brien to invoke his constitutional rights by asking the courts to set aside and quash the findings of the tribunal."

He added: "The truth is that Mr O’Brien and Mr Lowry prefer to publicly dismiss the gravest findings of the tribunal in relation to them, and to hope that the public will let the significance of those findings recede into the realm of history."

DOB and Lowry have been orchestrating legal letters and actions for years to muddy the waters, Lowry just dont give a fup, will not leave the Dail and Kenny/Hogan wont push hard,

Lowry was hugely involved in raising finance for FG, years ago, and as such his position is secured.

Hit DOB where it hurts , in his pocket, make him repay Anglo, take his passport off him and the missus, revoke all his non-resident crap........ but he too is favoured by Kenny, so not going to happen.

Guess McDowell won't be raising a glass to Dinny's health this Xmas. There's a pretty powerful statement in that article about the relationship between Dinny and Lowry.

Thankfully because of his legal background, McD has put the boot in on the pair of them, you gotta think DOB will retaliate, finely balanced.
