Sea Shepherd Are Totally Awesome!

With two fishing vessels containing angry Italian crews, there were risks involved with getting into the water to assess the bluefin catch. But if the catch was illegal, Sea Shepherd divers knew they must cut the nets and free the bluefin tuna.

Sometimes it is necessary to do what needs to be done despite the risks. The risk of losing the bluefin tuna as a species is far more important than the risks to our own lives and freedom.

And so we decided to free the tuna.

I watched a video of these guys a couple of days ago - one man in a small boat nearly lost a leg trying to stop the fishing. We need to keep the fish in the sea, but while there's profit made from it, and no profit made from stopping it, how do you do it?

And this is only a small part of what Sea Shepherd do, they protect the waters of the Galapagos Islands, stop poachers from catching live sharks cutting of their fins and throwing the sharks back into the water to drown, challenge the Canadian seal killings, and of course the Whale Wars, where a small group of international volunteers go to some of the most dangerous seas in the world to stop the Japanese Government killing whales in the Australian Whale sanctuary. Yep, they are some crew.

Pleased to say that Sea Shepherd will be opening a new chapter in Dublin with its first training day for volunteers later this month.
