Should be a very interesting programme tonight.

14 billion euro of subordinated debt - doesn't mature until 2014 - but a decision must be made whether to continue to guarantee it in September.
70 billion other debt needs to be refinanced in September.

Brian Lucey and others want a debt for equity swap.

    September is D-Day

Barry Anderson, Minister for Children, is being asked to comment on this !

Andrews says "we" are "lucky" to have the NPRF so FF can liquidate it
"The land Coillte Teo is now selling for development was given to them by the State in 1988 to ensure that our woodlands were run commercially, not to enable them to sell the family silver to service bank loans".

And a paid down National Debt so we can increase it.

Andrews says "Default would look like we couldn't pay our debts"

Point being made that this is commercial bad debt, not a public debt.

Bye-elections - Conor Hunt reporting. Fine Gael put forward a proposal for elections within 6 months of resignation/vaction of the seat.

The Green Party lead the charge in the Dail with Gormley and Mary White both arguing that there could be an "emergency" like flu which could prevent an election. As though an amendment could have dealt with that.

Which excuse fails to recognise the much more restrictive provision of aricle 16.3.2 of the constitution.

    Help us out there please...

Andrews says the By-Elections will be in the Autumn. Just before the budget doesn't sound like great timing to me.

Surely its better timing than after the budget? either way they wont win any of the seats.

True, but a comprehensive trouncing would undermine their authority and ability to carry a very difficult budget through.

Sadly this government of loons and incompetents treat this bye election issue as some sort of game. Government is not like the All Ireland or the Eurovision Song Contest.

People are entitled to the representation they voted for and not some mick mack fill in nonsense as touted by FF ministers! Either these vacant places get filled or we do not need them. You can't have it both ways.

As for impending budgets, surprise or otherwise let me say that there is little blood left in those stones. When you have killed the goose that laid the golden eggs all you have left is a dead goose. Of course FF don't believe in fairy stories...
Out of sight, out of mind.
