Because the same principle applies. Officials are either elected or appointed. Looking backward is much less important than looking forward. Can't change the past, can affect the future. I felt you were applying a guilty until proven innocent standard.
SF who have experience with him, seem happy enough. I feel your concerns are overblown.

Can't change the past, but can sure as heck learn from it, if you wish to. You think Harris has switched allegiance ?

A shaky start for Harris. He has over-ruled internal procedures re a Garda who was engaging in sexual activity in a squad car and now this:

That said, bear in mind vested interests who may oppose long overdue and much needed reforms will be keen to dish any dirt they can get on Harris and undermine him by leaking to favoured 'journalist' lackies.

The article is behind a paywall - would you be able to summarise ?

"A PSNI vehicle carrying Garda Commissioner Drew Harris was damaged during a security alert at Garda headquarters in Dublin’s Phoenix Park last month" --- oh surprise surprise

Is it surprising that SF has been so quiet about the appointment of Harris ?

Some of the events since this thread was started might I hope have clarified for those in any doubt that 'Britain' - the English-dominated State in U.K - is, when scratched, a hostile imperialist power, in its relations with Ireland. The open belief in the British government that British soldiers should be indemnified from charges if there is evidence that they have shot unarmed Irish civilians, Theresa May's assertion that the 6 Counties are part of "Our country, that we will never allow to be divided", the current breach of the GFA by deeming all citizens in the north as British (ignoring the agreement that they could choose to be Irish citizens), and the "starve the Irish" threat (as well as the very real threat to kill cattle ranching in Ireland by post Brexit tariffs) being cases in point.

What a great idea to hand our policing and intelligence forces over to them lock stock and barrel.

According to the Irish Examiner, he is "still a regular visitor to the North of Ireland."

The Garda Commissioner was being driven in line with “normal procedures” when the vehicle he was travelling in was struck by a security barrier, the PSNI and An Garda Síochána have said.
It occurred at Garda headquarters in Phoenix Park when sunken bollards at the entrance activated under an unmarked PSNI vehicle that was transporting Drew Harris back from a trip to Northern Ireland.
It is understood the incident in March, which has been blamed on a malfunction of new security structures, happened at walking pace and only minor damage was caused to the undercarriage of the vehicle.
    No one was injured.
The episode, however, has raised questions as to why the commissioner, a former high-ranking PSNI officer, was being driven from the border to Dublin by close protection officers from Northern Ireland.
The automated security measures seem to have more sense than the Government who appointed him here.

Picked up from RTE news today that the protocol supposedly is that Drew Harris is driven to the border by the PSNI and swaps cars there for a Garda car.
Instead of which he arrives driven by (armed?) PSNI in a PSNI jeep at Garda Headquarters.

Kudos to the bright Garda on duty who pressed the red button when this unauthorised vehicle showed up.

Are we to take it that Harris has not moved to the Republic but commutes ?

Further indications of positive steps under Harris in terms of a crack-down on corruption:

He will of course face resistance from powerful vested interests. Incidentally would a threat title along the lines of 'African take over of the taxi trade.' be permitted here? Rhetorical question, obvs.

As I said over on the other thread, even if it leads to nothing (file to the DPP, usually does, move along, nothing to see here, another 'black box' of our democracy), it might indicate some movement under the new management.
