    Apparently the BBC4 broadcast last night garnered one of their highest ever viewing audiences, which shows that there is a market for real hard-core research-based political documentary programmes in this age of dumbing down and 'fake news'.

    Did you watch it, and did it show anything new ? I find the idea that the BBC made a programme like this "in anticipation of a guilty result" very odd.

    I don't find that particularly odd. All the UK broadcasters have broadcasts ready to go in the event of the death of the Queen (or any other prominent royal). I think the general expectation was that Thorpe would be convicted, and he probably would have been if it were not for the notorious closing speech by the judge (later satirised by Peter Cooke with his famous 'biased judge' sketch).
