I think the Econo is doing a bit of Guardian doublethink there in that messy analysis (sure there's always a brightside and once you've wiped out the welfare state, sure then, etc). Anyhow we can still hope for a last minute reprieve for our Brasilian left colleagues (and anyone poor to middle class in Brasil to boot) but even if Haddad scrapes it , a military coup is still feared . A narrow defeat of Haddad might actually give some time and space to avert disaster is all I can hope for , but easy for me, I wont have to live in Brasil

Bolsonaro is too far ahead to lose in results from the electoral authority (some reports of tampering/hacking) with around a 10 point lead http://divulga.tse.jus.br/oficial/index.html

The arrival of scary times in Brasil, report from last Wednesday https://www.democracynow.org/2018/10...alize_protests

I note that Chomsky has written about this sort of stuff decades ago if not the exact method used this time. Almost too heavy to read, really headwrecking stuff and that https://chomsky.info/about/

Finding the situation almost too depressing to follow . Anyhow the latest on the 'slow moving coup' against the Brasilian leftside

In particular the fact that a majority or people were conned into voting for Bolsonaro is a 'pisser', though (the in himself hard to take I have to admit) Chomsky would say, 'it's all happened before' (in one of his books of collected essays I just glimpsed ) if by different methods in the pre social media age .
