    Default World Floods 2017

Over 1000 dead in the Pakistan floods this week.

I don't have a figure for the US. On the press coverage, have people learned ? There does not seem to be any of the awful racist toxicity of the Hurricane Katrina reportage.

Here, a nice story about some Mexican bakers in Houston who were cut off at work in the floods and baked all night. Over a 1000 loaves distributed. Doesn't say what the owner said when he got in the morning and found thousands of kilos of flour gone.

Rain induced mudslide killed 1000+ in Sierra Leone 2 weeks ago.

Toll in Texas is still small 20? but expected to rise. Nothing like Katrina which took 1800.
Houston prides itself on being the largest city with the smallest planning regulations, which contributed to the excessive flooding. Build a fancy hotel, and a used car dealership, two pawn shops, a palm reader and tattoo artist may move onto the vacant lot across the street. A city "planner" was quoted as saying: "who would want to live in a place that was flat, hot, and humid, if it was also expensive?"

Over the course of a week Harvey dropped 33 Trillion gals on the US. That's roughly the equivalent of 600,000 Olympic size pools of about 600,000 gals each.
