This kind of event is what kick started the really bad flooding we had a few years ago. It'll be interesting to keep an eye on the water levels in the upper Shannon region to see if this deluge starts off a flood season down along the Shannon.
It's probably too far north to have much of an effect on the Shannon but these big downpours seem to be able to find their way into the Shannon.
It's the intensity of the rain that has changed in the last few years - also, rainfall / flooding patterns are as a consequence less predictable. Places flooding that have never flooded before.
