Is anyone following this trial ? A senior cop was earlier this week allowed to give a rake of evidence about how awful the crowd was, without giving evidence that the accused was involved in any particularly awful way. The only thing he seemed to have to say about the 17 year old on trial (15 years old at the time of the protest) is that he had (wait for it) had a phone, and had used it to take close ups of Gardai. And he had a megaphone.

Some young people have been convicted. Very little press coverage.

    This is a useful documentary.

Charges against one of the seven were dismissed by the Judge.

The judge summed up - http://www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish...-jury-10690460
emphasising that for it to be imprisonment there had to be no way out.

Jury sent home after an hour deliberations "for legal reasons".

    Any more news ?

    All acquitted.

    Great news.

After an eight-week trial the 11-member jury returned unanimous verdicts.

The auntie Joe Duffy show somehow missed this news.

The story of 180 cops was contradicted by video evidence. Worth noting Gardaí want a law banning the public from filming them. #Jobstown

All defendants are NOT GUILTY. #jobstownnotguilty. Stitch up was not successful, now time to drop the charges against all others.

A fiasco of a trial. Patently political.

Will any of the defendants sue I wonder ?

Not a straight forward matter. Just because someone is found not guilty does not automatically mean they have a case for compensation.
Seems unfair but a defendant might have lost their job, their personal life might have been ruined, they might be left homeless, but still that does not entitle them to compensation. Now if they are rich and can afford good legal people well then they might have a chance. But then again, if they could afford good legal representatives they would be unlikely to be charged in the first place.
We got the best legal system money can buy.

We have. And the chances of Gardaí who evidently perjure themselves in Court facing charges is low.

I'm not going to argue with you there.

As someone just noted, the response will more likely be to try to prevent people from videoing the Gardai in action.

There is a contempt for the law and the constitution by Fine Gael in particular. Varadkar with his finger pointing at the Sinister Fringe. Kenny sacking Callinan, the wish to impose political control over the police and Judiciary.
