The case was curious. Most of the prosecution case was about the actions of people who were not on trial.

But apparently we are not supposed to criticise the DPP decision to prosecute Murphy at al on a charge that carried a life sentence.

Murphy was not even present when some of them took place - he turned up some time after the protest kicked off.

What is the situation now as regards the Trots and their front organisations,
do people know? Neither the SP nor the SWP exists in a formal sense any more (neither is on the June 2017 Register of Political Parties), although both exist as groups within Solidarity-PBP. How strong is their control over their front organisation -- do they control it or has it developed legs of its own? Visiting the Solidarity website, it's all about Repeal the 8th,
Black Lives Matter and so on. Has Trotskyism in Ireland been a victim of its own success?

What is it with the Trots! They really like going underground and controlling, or trying to control larger organisations with a secret party within a party. I think it was Dick Spring who threw them out of the Labour Party. Neil Kinnock did the same in the British Labour party.
There is an old book "Quiet Right Mr Trotsky" which I have somewhere. It gives the history of all the different Trotsky organisations and their carry on.

Trouble is, when I bought it their opposition to the USSR and any other real life Socialist government seemed absurd for self described Socialists. Their prediction that the USSR would collapse seemed outrageous. Well sad to say, they were right.
They were wrong however in what followed the collapse. They did not predict the millions of people who died as a result of the greedy swine ravaging the former Socialist countries. National Geographic feinted surprise when satellites recorded the only part of the planet growing darker was the former Warsaw Pact countries.
But that is history now. The main left resistance in Ireland is Trotskyst through and through, and I hope they have many more successes in the future.

And while I am here, when that prat Varadkar said to Paul Murphy in the Dáil "you are not a victim here" Murphy could have said he and the other defendants are not victims because of the Jury, not because of the (o so alleged) perjuring Gardaí. Or because of the DPP who decided to charge them with ridiculous crimes in the deluded belief that a jury would share their narrow and prejudiced view of anyone who challenged the establishment.

Hard to recognise that as Trotskyism. The Socialist Party website was creeping in that direction for the last couple of years.

There was never any principled discussion at the time of the previous attempt at forming a party. Like Syriza, organisational matters and personalities took precedent.

It is not just a Trotskyist phenomenon as the culprits in Syriza were mainly the Eurocommunists.

There are young people who were locked up for expressing their anger at Burton. Perhaps we should be campaigning to get them out ?

The Socialist Party website is actually looking better than it has for a few years in terms of management, but there is a heft amount of material on Britain and for an internationalist party not to visibly be addressing the Middle East is odd to say the least (I'm sure there is material buried in there somewhere, but....)

Interesting that the parties are not registered.
