The Immigrant Council of Ireland (ICI) was liaising with the Irish Family Planning Association for over seven weeks about applying for exit and re-entry documents for Ms Y, the young woman at the centre of the latest abortion controversy, a draft HSE report into her care has found.

Mark Tighe reports today in the ST that Ms Y attempted to halt that enquiry but her case will not be heard by the High Court until November.

Her solicitors have now "issued letters claiming damages against nine institutions over the way her request for an abortion was handled. Seven organisations have so far responded and none have accepted liability"

The institutions include "the health-screening centre at the asylum centre where she first lived, a psychiatric hospital, the maternity hospital where the baby was born, and the Health Service Executive (HSE). The Irish Family Planning Association (IFPA), which was involved in counselling Ms Y after she discovered she was pregnant, is also being sued. An Garda Siochana, which is alleged to be involved in Ms Y’s forced repatriation to Ireland when she travelled to Liverpool to seek an abortion, has also been issued with a claim."

    She is suing the HSE.

    The allegations make shocking reading.

No mention by the IT of what happened to the child: whether it survived and was healthy.

There is a report in today's press that a teenage girl was incarcerated in a psychiatric unit because she was asking for an abortion and was suicidal.
