I honestly believe that the comments section in itself has exposed the singular public reaction to Horan's miserable writing skills and her complete ignorance of the players, their sporting prowess, the worth of their successes, and their game.

No amount of traffic to and from that complete toilet bowl of an article could possibly be said to be promoting her crass ignorance or making anything approaching a 'success' of her abject stupidity. If anything, the attention merely highlights her uselessness.

Horan is a pretentious moron, generally way out of her depth on pretty much any subject she's directed to comment on.

Edit: with an update on the situation which she's caused upon herself. She apparently made a statement today to The Irish Examiner suggesting that she won't respond to criticisms of her brainless article until next week - when, she says, she'll address them in yet another brainless column for the Sunday Independent. So she's not only of highly questionable intelligence, she's also a coward waiting for the backlash to calm itself down before attempting to sell yet more toilet paper by yet again placing herself in the center of things for her bosses next Sunday.

And one of the most annoying aspects of this is that the Horan article has become the news item rather than the success of the women's rugby team, so she has dealt a double whammy to them.

I am glad that Railway Union got a chance in the MSM to address some of the issues.

Bizarrely enough, there's much more to it than that. First there's the brainless Niamh Horan's original unbelievably puerile and offensive article; then there's Katy Harrington's follow-up article berating Horan's original article; and now there's self-confessed liar/perjurer Sarah Carey's latest article backing up Horan's dumber-than-dumb article and berating Katy Harrington's valid criticisms of it.

And with all of that, the Irish Independent newspaper once again disappears up it's own árse.

Oddly enough, the liar Carey even uses it as an opportunity to make some vague reference to the works of Seamus Heaney, a man she previously confessed - with little or no embarrassment - to ever having even read.

I was accustomed to hearing Heaney quoted, but I'd never actually sat down and read one of his poems.

I'll see your double whammy, and raise you a triple whammy, Spectabilis!

Sarah Carey: the Queen of all she surveys in her tiny little world of privilege built on lies and deception.

She and Niamh Horan have so much shallow in common.

Throw in a little of her best buddy Alison O'Riordan's genial wisdom and you're onto a sure thing.

In the match against England now live on TG4 Ireland leads by 7 -5.

thanks for the heads up Sam Lord, or I would have missed it.

Update: Emily Scarrett (Eng) has turned that around with a fine kick. And Kat Merchant followed that with a try converted again by Scarrett.

England 15 Ireland 7 now after 37 minutes

And now a penalty kick from Scarrett makes it 18-7 for England

No way back for Ireland in the second half, I'm afraid. They are doing well in the line out but second best in every other aspect of the game. Scrum beginning to buckle. England are very penetrative when running at the Irish defence. Missed tackles all over the place ....

keeping my fingers crossed but it will take a whole different level of performance to pull this one out of the fire.

As I said above, England 18, Ireland 7 after 40 minutes.

Sam is right, not looking good for the second half.

And sure enough, Scarratt makes it 21-7 for England

And another try for England which, for a change Scarratt fails to convert.

Score now 26-7 to England after 58 minutes

Marlie Packer scores another try for England and it is converted by Large. then they repeat the feat .....

Score now 40-7 to England at 79 minutes. A Massacreee

Sin é. Won by the better team .

France vs Canada will be live on TG4 at 19.25 . That will decide which country plays England in the final. (Sam, have you a dog in that race?)

A great experience for them to go through, all the same. Much to be learned from it.

Indeed - well done to the Women's Rugby team. Don't forget: there are more clubs in England than players in Ireland so it is amazing to get to the semis especially having beaten NZ. England will probably go on to win it now so this has been a great tournament for Ireland.

The Irish team were marvelous both in their playing and in the way they carried and conducted themselves.
I am sure one of the legacies of this campaign will be an upsurge in Women taking up a sport.
Few things are as life affirming and life enhancing as physical activity and team or individual sport. By serving as an inspiration this team have done Ireland a great service.

Well done and thank you Ladies.

The women were very unlucky yesterday, that English team were very well drilled and had a brilliant skill set. Honestly they'll probably do the same to Canada in the final. England also contested the last three finals as well, but judging from the comments over the last couple of weeks from the Irish camp, they will probably feel like they didn't show up yesterday. Still a great world cup for them though.
