Default Who Is Alan Kelly ?

Following on from our "who is Eamon Gilmore" thread, time to look at Alan Kelly, who has declared an interest in standing for the leadership of the Labour Party.

He has benefited from various corporate donatons in the past, something not so usual for Labour politicians.

..chewed over here 5 years back on P.ie.

    http://www.politics.ie/forum/labour/...ing-links.html

He described himself today as "ambitious" and as "Alan Kelly" (always a worrying sign).

Alan seemed OK until he agreed to privatisation of parts of the bus network. He claims his hand was forced by Varadakar, but I'm not certain if that is true.

I'm sure it won't. To spare you the pain of looking at that thread again, I'll quote a few of the factual nuggets. I'm also editing the OP of this thread - as a look at his Wiki entry shows a lot more contact with the Labour Party pre-Senate than was evident when I read up about him a couple of years ago.

The 2008 SIPO report on political donations showed that Labour's Alan Kelly was the biggest receiver of personal/corporate donations in the Oireachtas at circa €35k. Among those those donations were 3 from the same address - €2400 each from Nessa and Michael Madden and a donation of €5000 from RONOC International, €2500 of which was subsequently returned. A net donation of €7300. Michael Madden is the MD of RONOC International as well other companies. RONOC and its associated companies are involved in financial services such as money transfer.
29/04/09 - Donations Disclosed by TDs, Senators and MEPs for 2008, Standards in Public Office Commission

There is nothing untoward with the above, however, if you do a google of RONOC International and Michael Madden the MD you are drawn to a link between them and what can be best described as a UK based neo con think tank called 'The Defence and Security Forum'. www.defenceandsecurity.com

The Defence and Security Forum describe themselves as:

The Defence and Security Forum was founded by Lady Olga Maitland in 1983. It was originally a campaigning organisation known as Families for Defence launched to challenge the anti-nuclear protest movements such as CND. Families for Defence’s remit was to promote the NATO case for multilateral nuclear disarmament. In the course of doing so the purpose was to focus on the importance of a proper provision for the defence of the United Kingdom.

It appears that Mr Madden was a speaker at a conference on April 6-7th this year at the 'Naval and Military Club, St James Sq., London' organised by The Defence and Security Forum. The conference was on the financial global trade and money transfer.

The links are tangential for sure but very odd for an alleged 'Socialist' Labour Party Senator and aspiring MEP.
Next installment of the Senator Alan Kelly funding saga as promised:

Alan Kelly told Mark Hennessy in an article (Labour candidate in Euro poll tops list for donors - The Irish Times - Thu, Apr 30, 2009) that he returned a €2500 LNC Property donation because it would not be appropriate to take it. But he accepted a donation again of €2500 from Oyster Technology. Both companies share the same address and the same owner, a Bill McCabe (Movers: Bill McCabe, chair, Irish Cancer Society - Third Sector). If it was inappropriate to take the LNC Property donation what made the Oyster Technology one more appropriate as it is ultimately from the same source? Is it just a case of the optics with the company name rather than any matter of principle? Or, was the Oyster Technology donation made after the return of the LNC Property donation? In which case Kelly is engaged in at least semantics, if not outright deception, rather than anything he considered inappropriate with the LNC Property donation? Alan Kelly never declared any of this to Mark Hennessy in the article. Hennessy may feel he was led up the garden path on that one.

The next installment I hope to post tomorrow re International Banking Consultancy funding links.
    And in explanation...

just in case no one has pointed this out michael madden and alan kelly are childhood friends and grew up in the same village in north tipperary. alan kellys brother is also one of the top irish businessmen in the u.s and is also a childhood and still a close personal friend of michael maddens.

Sah him on the news saying he's 38 and he's been a TD, MEP, Senator and God knows what else

Somebody somewhere likes Alan, and wants Alan to have political power

AH the third person strikes again.
Poor third has not had a public outing since Sean Quinn went home from court.

    Proposed by Willie Penrose

Alan Kelly has accepted a nomination for the Deputy Leadership of Labour so it may be Burton-Kelly on July 4th.

He'll be good value for money says Miriam! Who's money, one wonders?

Kelly is from a staunch old Labour background and he doesn’t seem to mind stepping on toes. He should be good value for money when he becomes a minister.

likes to splash the cash, does Deco

He is the younger brother of Declan Kelly, who was appointed in 2009 as economic envoy to Northern Ireland by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Declan, and a company co-owned by him, donated a total of €7,500 in 2010 to help elect the north Tipperary politician to Dáil Éireann.

This included a declaration from Mr Kelly that his brother, from his address in New York, donated €2,480. A company jointly owned by Mr Kelly, Stone Park Taverns, also gave the new TD €2,500. Accounts for the same company show that, on top of that, it made a €2,500 payment to “North Tipperary Labour Party”.
