And as for CF's strategy question - it hasn't changed since the last time I answered it - the strategy is to attempt to build a broad anti-austerity campaign that could potentially develop into a new left party.
And the group in Cork that is blockading their estate against water metering: would they be welcome in such a party ?

Pardon me if I refuse to take you seriously. Or don't.

Not if they've got a sense of humour. Priests of the cloth only.

The blocking the water meter installers in the Ballyphehane / Togher area has nothing to do with the AAA. Indeed word is that AAA candidates who turned up there to "support" them (i.e. a photo opportunity) were politely told to leave.

This is what they told RTE - that they had been with the AAA (or one of its incarnations) but that there had been a falling out with the Socialist Party. Would you have any idea what the disagreement was ?

No, they were never with the AAA, they were in CAHWT. It should also be pointed out that the protesters are not a homogenous group. While most of them are attached to the Ballyphehane / South Parish Campaign against Water Tax, not all are. They have been supported by local residents with no previous involvement in the campaign.

I think the disagreement with the AAA goes back to the lack of trust with those trying to dominate the campaign with their party political aims. There were also issues of tactics. You'll find chapter and verse in this blog http://revolutionaryprogramme.wordpress.com

If all members of the SP are running as AAA candidates, how does that work out for non-SP members of the AAA ?

I haven't posted this earlier, because it was dispiriting to see this kind of tussle over a councillor seat, of the kind that regularly occurs with FG and FF.

I don't know anything about the individuals involved, or the politics they hold.

    Can anyone enlighten ?

It is a reformist and very limited programme. For example, there is no housing policy, and housing is an important part of local authority work.

Would Alliance candidates favour building more social housing and housing for travellers ?
    Is the AAA gone ?

the AA programme was even more limited than Syriza's. Does it really merit the precious resources of one of the few left organisations in Ireland with any organisational capacity ?

Thats a dead link Cass. I presume its a link referring to the fact that the AAA are no longer registered?

That the AAA has dwindled away to nothing beyond a few SP heads should be a surprise to no one.

Quite tetchy aren't we? No doubt we are due yet another flounce, you must hold the record at this stage.

They're saying now that PBP might merge with the AAA. It's almost humorous, it is obvious how this will eventually end.

There is no merger and no discussion of a merger - there is discussions on the approach to the next election.

I looked back at the election literature of the last bye-election campaign with an AAA candidate. The only slogan/policy seemed to be not to pay water bills.

Is that really enough to build a party on ? Why is the SP not standing on its own programme ?
