It is one thing to use investigative journalism to highlight a miscarriage of justice that has resulted in wrongful conviction.

It is another to point to an individual and imply guilt, on the basis of suspicion, outside the context of a trial.

I was struck by the interview with a retired policeman who suggested that if only he had been able to harangue a suspect (who was denying guilt) a bit longer then he/she would have cracked. In context, the editorial seemed to suggest that he should have be left to let rip.

We have seen that kind of thing go horribly wrong.
Inclined to agree. I'm also very wary of unsolved disappearance cases where there is a difference of opinion within the family, as seems to be the case here.

I think some have missed the point.

The central allegation is that a FF politician interfered in an ongoing investigation by instructing AGS to cease interviewing, certainly not arrest, and stay away from a "certain family" despite them being the obvious "persons on interest"... since then the authorities have focused on outside boogeymen.

Looks like Gemma O'Doherty's documentary has finally forced some action. Not an independent investigation of course and it seems that the Cold Case unit findings will be referred back to local gardai for further investigation. Looks a lot like a kick to touch.

A specialist garda unit is to take a fresh look into the disappearance of six-year-old Mary Boyle, who was last seen almost 40 years ago in Co Donegal. The Serious Crime Review team will scrutinise the case from when Mary was first reported missing in March 1977.
If anything new is uncovered or warrants further investigation it will be followed up.
Mary Boyle was last seen by her uncle close to her grandparents' house in Cashelard near Ballyshannon.
Mary's twin sister Ann Doherty has been campaigning in recent years for the case to be reopened and has met politicians in Leinster House, the European Parliament, the US and Brussels.

I think there was one suspect, and had the impression from Doherty's documentary that they were vigorously interviewed by Gardai.

    It is a difficult one.

Attempted political interference is a separate question from anyone's guilt or innocence, and if it took place, was appalling.

Is there evidence that it did ?

A rather rapid descent after the death of her husband and loss of her job.

I didn't know about her bereavement and I haven't followed her recent progress, but could see that some of her campaigns lacked a foundation in fact to a bothersome extent.

One of the few voices in the Indo thst i respect told me around the time of my Ganley drama that she was difficult in all the wrong ways. Funny. Waters GOD and the Sugarman being the new alt ... fill in the blanks...with wannabe Hemingway Terry Mc Mahon with the megaphone. At least Michsel McDowell has a brain. This is like Nicholson taking the "professors" on the fishing trip. One vain fantasist blowing another allegedly in the name of Ireland. And remember kids it's all false flag. All little lads of the tricks. As Peadar wld say when not writing to Mammy. And Sugarman, is he still looking for the candy of adulation well over a decade since the past the sell by date lollipop was sucked.

On Twitter family members, like in other cases, have not a good word to say about her. But they are all tail hiding members of ...as GOD says...the one world government. I got so sick of that self promoying talentless dick tweeting that her nexy piece wld bring down the gov. Hate that genre of self publicity. Put up. Shut up. Many years later the gov stands n GOD is an out n out loon wriggling around with the weird life forms you get at the bottom of brown bins. The queen got scales n Jim got rhythm.. Lord have mercy on us. Good though that most people saw her as someone needing a big house badly. But one where they lick the doors..

It does help to stay in touch with the real world as in reality.
